Rams Take State 3 Rams Make Tourney Team Rams take state for the fist time. This was the first year the mighty rams have been in the finals of state competition. They started off with a nip and tuck victory over Round Valley outscoring them 67-64. In the second round Antelope met Thatcher, the team that beat them by 1 point in the second round last year. It was a close game un- til the third quarter when Antelope rolled off 20 points to Thatcher’s 4. The Rams got sweet revenge with a 70-58 victory. In the final round the Rams were up against the tall team from Tombstone. The game was close up to halftime, but in the second half the Rams couldn’t be stopped. They rolled over Tombstone 86-67, as Antelope’s Barry Lindsey set a state tournament record by scoring 50 points. Antelope fans went wild as the State Championship trophy was awarded to Coach Sipe by the Vice President of the A.I.A. and our own superintendent, Mr. Sid Grande. After the excitement cooled down the All Tournament team was an- nounced. Idelfonso Manzo was selected second team all tournament while Manuel Rivas and Barry Lindsey were selected for the first team All Tournament. Barry was also the co-captain of the team. This year’s All Conference team consisted of six Antelope players. At Honorable Mention Steve Kelland and Jimmy Murdock were selected. Second team all Conference were Scott Shill and Idelfonso Manzo, while first team selections were Manuel Rivas and Barry Lindsey. Barry was named the team’s captain. On the All State team Manuel Rivas was a second team selection while Barry Lindsey was a first team selection. Barry Lindsey was also named co-player of the year by the Arizona Republic and KTAR television sta- tion. Barry is the first junior ever to win this award. Coach Sipe was honored by being selected Coach of the Year in the B-west conference. Antelope finished with its best basketball record in the school’s history with a 23-2 record. 1.
