“Can You Dig Us” You can tell by these pictures that the Freshmen really enjoyed Initiation Day. They were so enthu- siastic about it that the boys girls even got mixed up about what they were going to wear on this big day. The boys were dressed as girls, wearing an old dress and burlap bag, and because they were boys they even put their stockings on the wrong place, their heads, ... very interesting!!! Now the girls didn t really get dressed to come to school they wore boys pajama bottoms and burlap tops. They even forgot to take their hundreds of braids out of their hair, but as Seniors we got the honor of taking them out and fixing their hair for them. It seemed Seniors were having just as much fun as the Freshmen, making the poor little Freshmen do hard tasks, like carry our books to class, and trying to color Freshmen s hair with food color while making them eat shaving cream. Throughout the day whenever Seniors met Freshmen, there were shouts of can you dig us and we dig seniors . The climax of the day came when the Freshmen, under the direction of the Seniors presented an assembly for the entire student body. During the assembly the blacklisted Freshmen preformed special numbers for the awaiting audience. Then everyone was beckoned to the middle compound on campus where the Freshmen were taught the school song by the Senior girls. By the end of the day, a sort of relief was felt by the Seniors and the Freshmen alike. Their Initiation Day had Ended. 6
