HIGH SCHOOL WELLTON, ARIZONA 1961 Editor - Iva Jones Business Manager - Kathy rt - Jim Jones Photography - Judy Allen Manypeople think of the desert as a bar- ren waste land whose only inhabitants are buzzards and lizards. In reality, the desert harbors some of nature's most beautiful and interesting creatures. On the following pages is some of the wild- life depicting the theme for the 1961 Desert Sands, the Living Desert. DEDICATION Below is pictured the water which is so vital to our community, for without it our great agricultural oasis would revert to Desert Waste Lands. It is to the people and organizations who were and are responsible for our reclamation project, that we, the students of AUHS sin- cerely dedicate this yearbook, the 1961 Desert Sands. CONTENTS ADMINISTRATION 6 SENIORS 18 JUNIORS 28 SOPHOMORES 36 FRESHMAN 44 ORGANIZATIONS 50 SPORTS 62 ACTIVITIES 76 ADS 92 INDEX 126 V 6 7 When you glance through your annual in the years to come, I hope that you will remember the dreams you built as a student of Antelope Union High School. Do not let your dreams have been the end in themselves, however. They are only the starting point---you must take action if your great goals are to be reached. Try hard. Success is often built upon adversities, and all too often we give up before the struggle is even started. The dream in your heart is good and should be fulfilled. Continue to meet the challenges of life and to triumph 8 over them. Only then will you have not dreamed in vain. SCHOOL BOARD ALLEN MARLETT NORMAN UNDERDOWN Pre sident ARCHIE PERRY If ever any group of men deserved to be recognized for an outstanding performance and a job well done, you are that group. If ever anyone merited remembrance for unselfishly volunteering to undertake such a task, you do. You were not content to do a satisfactory job. You have gone all out to do your very best. For this we can only offer our most humble, Thank you . And truly you will never go unwept, unhonored, and unsung.
