class history In the year of 1964, fourteen scared children walked into the kindergarten room of Mrs. Troxel, later taken over by Mrs. McCullum. The scared children were Terry Pflaster, Dean Eastwood, Leslie Osterhoudt, Nancy Bergstrom, Micheal Sittler, Cheryl Taylor, Larry Leibhart, LeeAlan Lehman, Dennis Lyon, Teresa Mathiason, Merna McAlevy, Kathy Fletcher, Colleen Geiser, Doug Christen, and Mary Cole. Leaving us were Kathy Fletcher and Dean Eastwood. Joining us was Jeanne Cramer. Along with us ten more scared children of Anselmo joined the halls of education. They were Oren Johnson, Karen Simons, Jane Daily, Rosemary Christen, Barbara Geiser, and Deanna McAlevy. These eager students were instructed by Mrs. Johnson. Our first grade year, we were joined by Jean Allen and our teacher was Miss Thompson. The Anselmo first grade was joined by Dena Turnipseed, and Pam McCandless. They lost Deanna McAlevy and they were guided through the year by Mrs. Hickey. The Merna second grade was guided through the year by Mrs. Hudson. We were joined by Oren Johnson, Randy Doggett, and Diane Florian. Mrs. Hickey again taught the Anselmo second grade. They lost Oren Johnson. As we traveled through the grades, we learned more and more. The Merna third grade teacher was Mrs. Switzer. We gained Dena Turnipseed, and we lost Diane Florian. The third grade of Anselmo lost Dena Turnipseed, but gained Bob Hempstead. Their teacher was Mrs. Gilligan. Mrs. Gilligan again taught Anselmo through their fourth grade year. They lost nor gained any students. Mrs. Applegarth was our fourth grade teacher in Merna. We gained Deanna McAlevy. Fifth grade in Merna started out with our teacher, Mrs. Kieborz. We gained one, Pam McCandless. Mrs. Vandeventer was the fifth grade teacher in Anselmo. They lost Pam McCandless. Mrs. Vandeventer led the sixth graders through another year in Anselmo. They lost nor gained any students. Mr. Mills led the sixth grade in Merna. We were joined by Randy Williams and Lorene Jacobsen. That year we lost Lorene Jacob- sen and LeeAlan Lehman. The seventh graders of Anselmo and Merna united. Our teacher was Mrs. Erikson. We were joined by Joanne Ferguson, and Jonie and Teny McCandless. We lost Barbara Geiser. Mrs. Smets led us on through the eighth grade as we approached high school. We were joined by Donald Johnson and Cindy Winters. Cindy left us that same year. After eighth grade graduation the class was anxiously awaiting the day when we made the big step. During our freshman year, we gained two new students, Kerry Cram and Russell Cole. Our sponsor was Mr. Stabb. Our sophomore year brought more responsibilities and money-making projects to the class. Our sponsor was Mrs. Hardy. We gained Bobbe Harden. We were sorry to see Jonie McCandless and Bobbe Harden leave us at the end of the year. Our junior year our sponsor was Mrs. Grantzinger. We lost Russell Cole and gained Steve Kirkpatrick. Our class play was entitled House on Whaleshead Rock. The class returned to school in the fall of 1975 as mighty seniors. Our sponsor again was Mrs. Grantzinger. We gained Angie Arnold and lost Merna McAlevy. Now the twenty-four students are taking one of the largest steps in their lives. We wish our underclassmen good luck as they travel through AMHS. 20
