EDITORS' MESSAGE Life is like a boat in a river. Each paddle of the wheel hits the water and causes currents - some large, somesmall. Even as we drift through life, each year consists of events - some important, others minute. But only when the water hits the wheel does the action begin. On August 27, 1973, the water hit the wheel at A-M and the action began. The 1974 Coyote has attempted to cap- ture some of this action for your memory and enjoyment. They were: Roger Blakeman, Wendy Powers, Deb Diefenbough, Pat Hempstead, Terry Satchell, Loyd Olson, Pat Clay, Marvin Schweitzer, and Jerry Moninger. In the first grade, Mrs. Huntzinger again took over the task of teaching. We lost Wendy Powers, and were joined by Kathy Kelley and Margaret Mathieson. 1963 brought a new teacher, Maureen Bindewald, and a new student, Rod Burnett, to the second grad- ers. We lost Kathy Kelley and Pat Hempstead went to Anselmo. In 1964, several country students come to town, to be taught and guided by the third grade teacher, Mrs. Wilma Switzer. Greg Coleman, Larry Coleman, Marilyn Cantrell, and Karen Wood came in from the country. Bill Keller also joined us and Danny Spanel came from Anselmo. Later in the year, Joy Doggett and Mary and Linda Forshay, who were not with us long, came in, making a total of eighteen students. In the fourth grade, with Mrs. Ruby Christensen, we gained three new pupils. Ellen Fagan came from Anselmo and Marvin Ritchie and Marijean Florian arrived later in the year. We lost Margaret Mathieson and Terry Satchell. Mrs. Eva Mae Kieborz guided the fifth graders through the school. New students were: Linda Turnip- seed and Bruce Rush from Anselmo. Margaret Mathieson rejoined us this year and left later, and Mike Trew also joined the class this year. We lost Marijean Florian and Marvin Schweitzer. There was one new sixth grader, Joe Wrede, who left before the year was over. Rod Burnett left us. Mrs. Alvina Lauer taught the class. Off to a new life. Alice Christen, Shirley Axtell, Ronnie Miller, Jim Thiel, and Shirley Kieborz started their school years guided by Miss Tompson. Patty Holley joined us later that same year to make a class of six in Anselmo. In Anselmo, Peg Schmidt and Pat Hempstead joined the second grade to total eight, with Miss Tomp- son as our teacher again. 1964 found Country schools coming to town in Anselmo, also. Mrs. Lela Daily guided us through that year. In the fifth grade in Anselmo, Rick McCaslin, Bruce Ruch and Linda Turnipseed left, but we gained Cindy Gilligan. Miss Dewey was the teacher of seventeen eager students. Bringing our class in Anselmo to an even twenty in 1967 as sixth graders was Rick McCaslin. Mrs. Sterner was our teacher that year. In the seventh grade, the Anselmo and Merna schools joined together in Merna. Mrs. Mamie Erick- son instructed the thirty-three students. 1969 found us entering the eighth grade under the guidance of Mrs. Lucielle Smets. As juniors, we lost Carolyn Fisher and Shirley Keiborz and gained Jim Spurlock. Our class presented the play Ready Made Family and later sponsored the banquet and prom having th$ theme Pieces of April. Miss Johnson was our sponsor. As mighty seniors in the fall of 1973, we gained Rod Burnett and lost Jim Spurlock. An exchange student, Elia Maria Mejia, came to join the class in November from Managua, Nicaragua. The Anselmo-Merna Junior High Basketball Team compiled one of the most envied records in recent sports history at Anselmo-Merna Schools. Coached by Douglas Shada and Stanley Staab. the Junior High Coyotes coasted to an undefeated season for the 1973-74 school year. It would certainly be difficult to point out one individual, or one group of individuals as the outstand- ing persons, as a solid team effort was the sole reason for the perfect season. It would likewise be hard to point out one achievement as the outstanding feat of this group of young men. We would conclude, however, that the winning of both conference tournaments had to rank as some of the most exciting moments of 73-74 for the junior Coyotes. The impact of some of these young persons is already being felt on the high school scene, as some of the team members are already playing high school reserve basketball. They will, we're sure, be the athletic leaders at Anselmo-Merna High for the coming years. A sincere Well Done! to all participants and coaches of the Junior High Team of 1973-74.
