“
We seek a renewed stirring of love for the eaitn; we urge that what man is capable of doing to the earth is not always what he ought to do; and we plead that all people, here, now, determine that a wide, spacious untrammeled treedotu shall remain as living testimony that this generation, our own, had love for the next. - David R. Brower What is the value of solitude? - of peace, of light, of silence? What is the cost of freedom? Nancy Newhall We would like to dedicate this edition of the 1973 Coyote to our environment. The preservation of life and beauty is a sacred thing. We hope our fellowman helps to preserve life, not destroy it. Honorary Dedication We, the Seniors of 1973, wish to make an Hon- orary Dedication of this edition of the Coyote to Mr. John Faherty. We would like to thank him for his friendship, even when times weren’t so friendly. Thank you, Mr. Faherty, for putting up with us all these years. To the Anselmo-Mema Graduates of 1973: Please accept my congratula- tions on your attaining the status of high school graduates. I am sure that the yearbook your class has published wi 11 serve many times in the recollection of pleasant high school memories. Your class effort is to be highly commended for a job well done. As each student goes his separate way, please remember that the only station in life that is low in dignity is that which is re- garded by the worker with less than his very best effort. With best regards I am Sincerely yours, L. Gary Jackson High School Principal BOARD OF EDUCATION BACK ROW: Wayne Hardy, Allen Geiser, Harold Coleman. RALPH L. GRAY GRADUATING CLASS OF 1973 Class History In early September, 1960, twelve bright cheerful faces greeted Mrs. Huntzinger in their first adventure of school learning. Members of this outstanding class were Marla Blakeman, Susan Gracey, Kathryn Esch, LeAnn Call, Deb Saner, Kathy Hick- man, Linda Moninger, Dess Fletcher, Richard Duryea, Garry Kastens, Calvin Berg- strom and Steve Brewer. In 1961, nine first graders were joined by Carl Mathiosan, making ten. Susan Gracey, Deb Saner, and Steve Brewer left us and Mrs, Huntzinger again took over the task of teaching. In Anselmo, were David Dishman, Colleen Babcock and Bar- bara Hardy. Their teacher was Mrs. Young. In the second grade Mrs. Holcomb greeted a new student, Glenn Bowers, who joined a class of nine, having lost LeAnn Call. Anselmo lost Colleen Babcock. Their teacher was Miss Thompson. 1963 brought many country students to the city. Mrs. Bindewald guided seven- teen third graders through the perils of childhood. Corinne Sommer, Barb Bader, Lonnie McAlevy, Clifford Sterner, Linda Taylor, Theresa Howard, and Karen Mannel joined the class. David Mason, LeAnn Call, Gary Schulenburg, John and Jesse Christen joined Anselmo. Mrs. Anderson was their teacher. Mrs. Christensen taught a roaring fourth grade class of twenty-two. Joining us were Jane and Jean Chrisp, Kathy Blakeman, Dean Wood and Kathy Keller. Ansel- mo fourth graders were joined by Marvin Geiser, David Peterson, Carlene Tumipseed, and Gladys Thiel. Mrs. St orms was their teacher. In 1965, twenty fifth graders were under the instruction of Mrs. Kieborz. Tina Doggett joined us, while Glenn Bowers, Carl Mathiosan, and Theresa Howard left. Anselmo students were taught by Mr. Hunt and Mrs. Souders. Twenty-five sixth graders, under the guidance of Mrs. Lauer, were joined by Carl Mathiosan, Kevin Knott, Vincent Smith, Carlene Tumipseed, Roy Reynolds, and Jim Florian. Linda Taylor was the only student who left. Mr. Bollacker taught An- selmo with Mike Manning the only new student. Entering [unior High, the Anselmo students joined Mema. Mrs. Anderson was our instructor. John and Jesse CJtristen, LeAnn Call, Marvin Geiser, Barbara Hardy, Gary Schulenburg, David Mason, Gladys Thiel, and Kay Squier joined us to make twenty-nine. Mike Manning, Carl Mathiosan, Kevin Knott, Jim Florian, Jane and Jean Chrisp left us. Thirty eighth graders studied under Mrs. Smets. Dawn Curtis and Dan Walker were new students while Vincent Smith left. Entering high school was a big step. As freshmen we lost only one, Roy Reynolds, making us a class of twenty-nine. Mrs. Hardy wa our class sponsor. Our sophomore year brought Gary Cole and Chuck McGinnis. Departing from our class were Marvin Geiser and Gladys Thiel. We again had twenty-nine in our class and Mr. Ekberg was our sponsor. In our junior year we lost Chuck McGinnis and Marla Blakeman but gained Marla McCandless and Mary Shada. The class presented the play No Boys Allowed and later on sponsored the prom and banquet, The Impossible Dream. Mr. Leeka was our busy sponsor this year. As seniors in the fall of 1972 we gained Kelly Duryea. This year our play was entitled Finders Creepers. After Christmas we were blessed with Eduardo Lira from Arequipa, Peru. We chose the red rose as our class flower and as our colors we chose mint green and silver. Our motto is May the world be better tomorrow by the deeds we do today.” April 28 brought our sneak trip to the Lake of the Ozarks. Mr. and Mrs. Shada and Mr. and Mrs. Adams supervised us. As we depart from the halls of A-M H.S., we say good-bye to all the hearts we touched, if any, and we wish the junior class good luck as seniors next year. I iiave learned to love Nebraska and its people, and I hope that my stay has helped a little bit on getting your country and mine closer together. I would like to thank everybody who made this a really nice time for me, and to say that if I had the chance to start this all over again, I would not hesitate of coming here for a second time. Thanks a million, A-M H.S. MRS. KATHRYN PATTON This year the Anselmo-Mema school system will be losing a great teacher and friend. For the past thirty-one years. Mrs. Kathryn Patton has helped many students cross their troubled paths of high school onto the perils of adulthood. During her yean here at Anselmo-Mema, she has taught vocal and instrumental music, French, Latin, Speech, Home Economics and English. For the past few years she has been in charge of the school's communications. She also has taugh as a substitute teacher in the Omaha schools. Mrs. Patton holds a bachelor's degree from Union College in Lincoln and a master's degree from North Dakota State University. She also attended North Dakota State College. We'd like to wish Mrs. Patton much happiness in her retirement.
