Anselmo-Merna COYOTE Oh, what a lovely honeymoon!!! Mr. McGraw and his “best ’ girl. Dedication We. the Class of 1970, are pleased to dedicate this annual to our sponsor, Mr. McGraw. Through our two most important years, Mr. McGraw has patiently helped guide us. We greatly appreciate Mr. McGraw’s leadership and counseling, we'll remember him as a friend as well as a leader. We. the co-editors, also wish to thank Mr. Mc- Graw, as our annual advisor, for the many hours he sacrificed to give us helpful hints and encourage- ment to continue our task of completion of this annual. In Memory Of Linda Annette Gates DAY IS DONE Tell me why you are crying my son. I know you’re frightened like everyone. Is it die thunder in the distance you fear? Will it help if I stay very near? I am here. And if you take my hand my son, all will be well when the day is done. Do you ask why I’m sighing my son? You shall inherit what mankind has done. In a world filled with sorrow and woe. If you ask me why this is so, I really don’t know. And if you take my hand my son, all will be well when the day is done. Tell me why you are smiling my son. Is there a secret you can tell everyone? Do you know more than men that are wise? Can you see what we all must disguise, through your loving eyes. And if you take my hand my son, all will be well when the day is done. Day is done. Class History In the year of 1956, die doors of Mema High School opened wide to thirteen timid but eager students who have progressed and have now become die graduating class of 1970. These youngsters were: Carolyn Call, Keith Cantrell, Rojane Cool, Darlene Crawford, Gary Eng, Mary Esch, Danny Hickman, Nancy Jacobsen, Gail Malcolm, Kenny Newman, Arlene Seevers, Jim Williams, and Terry Wright. They were welcomed by their teacher, Mrs. Florence Huntzinger. Having mastered their ABC's they moved on into the first grade. Mrs. Huntzinger remained with them for another year. Two new students, Barbara Fisher and Johnny Moninger came in from the country. Four more students joined the class during the second grade. They were Elden Duryea, Colleen Blakeman, Joleen McCandless, and Nila Ritchie. Judy Beckman joined during the second semester. Mrs. Wanda Wilson was their teacher. Mrs. Blanche Borcher became the classes' third grade teacher. From Dale Valley came Anne Godwon and her smiling face. Cathy Kieborz came down from Seneca. Mrs. Borcher decided they were not such a bad class so she stayed another year. The class welcomed Karen Reynolds and John Janski. With their fifth grade came a new teacher, Mrs. Lois Anderson. With her came Pat Mc- Cormick, Nancy McCormick, Patricia Mohatt, and Pat Bates. It was during this year that Carolyn Call moved away. Mrs. Alvina Lauer taught during the sixth grade. The class grew by five new students. They were: Irene Bindewald, Penny Fred, Mark Sommer, Roger Safranek, and Yolanda Vavra. Lynn Chrisp came during the classes' seventh grade year. Mr. Lynn Johnson taught the class. The eighth grade year was quite a year. Anselmo joined Mema and the class was divided along with two different teachers, Mrs. Lois Anderson and Mrs. Lucile Smets. The new Anselmo students were: Debbie Ax tell, Carolyn Call, BiU Christen, Linda Daily, Radine and Randy Fiorelli, Barbara Fisher, Maureen Gaffney, Linda Gates, Debbie Hardy, Mike HoUey, Richard Mason, Donita Ru and David Stithem. All were quite happy when the word rumored that they had passed their examination and were well on their way to high school. Graduation was on May 23rd. When the class reached high school they were very excited about being called freshmen even if it was green freshmen. The class gained Joe Daily, Cynthia McCulloch, Jerry Olson, and Mark Smith. They lost Linda Daily, Linda Oates, Donita Rush, Irene Bindewald, and Yolanda Vavra. Mr. Ferguson was chosen as class sponsor and a bake sale and car wash were the money making projects of the year. The class sponsor for their sophomore year was again Mr. Ferguson. Leaving the class were Lynn Chrisp, Barbara Fisher, Richard Mason, Rojane Cool, and Mark Smith. But all was not lost as they gained Robert Corder and Jerry Sebesta. Again a car wash and bake sale were the money making projects. Leaving during the year were Jerry Olson, Jerry Sebesta. and Robert Corder. The class had climbed the ladder well and now were known as juniors. Mark Smith again joined the class but left later on in the year. Teddy Stithem was welcomed into the class from Broken Bow. The class chose Mr. Dennis McGraw as sponsor. Take Your Medicine, a three-act comedy, was presented in the spring. Fantasy of the Sea became the theme for the Junior-Senior banquet and prom which was held on May 3, 1969. The Mother's Pride and Joy furnished the music for the evening. As mighty seniors die class gained Micki McCaslin. Virginia Carson came during the second semester. Mr. McGraw again stood the strain of being elected sponsor for the class. A slave auction held in the fall of die year proved to be quite profitable. On April 25, 1970 , 31 seniors and their sponsors boarded a bus and journeyed to the Lake of the Ozarks for a glorious sneak trip. The class of 1970 will definitely miss high school and all the students, but in the future, they will light the path of tomorrow with the torch of today.
