The Glee Clubs have assisted several times this year in various programs
-by selected quartets, mixed quartets. etc. The mixed chorus-made up of
boys' and girls' glee clubs, has met once a week and has done unusually well.
Since no solos were allowed in the district contest this year emphasis was put
on groups. The girls' quartet is made up of the following girls: Hannah
Sell. soprano: Jean Gow, second soprano: Lora Lee Chase, first alto: and
Riginette Marander, second alto.
The boys' quartet is as follows: Hazen Wilcox, bass: Judson Roberts,
second tenor: Gerald Mullaney, baritone: Bob Reed, tenor.
The mixed quartet is Hannah Sell, soprano: Riginette Marander, alto:
Bob Reed, tenor: and Hazen Wilcox, bass.
The officers of the Girls' Glee Club are: President, Bernice Nelson: Secre-
tary, Ruth Herbold: Treasurer, Lora Lee Chase: Librarian, Marian Rogers.
Of the Boys' Glee Club, the oflicers are: President, Gerald Mullaney: Vice
President, Hazen Wilcox: Secretary and Treasurer, Bob Reed: Librarian. Lisle
Besides providing entertainment in small groups at numerous' church and
club meetings, the Glee Clubs have participated in the following:

Christmas Cantata-December 17
Contest Recital-April 29
District Contest-May l
State Contest-May 15
The band and orchestra have worked faithfully all year-admitting
several junior high members. They have played for assemblies, pep programs,
Wednesday "sing", and at entertainments.
The special quartet from the band Cmade up of soloistsj has earned a
trip to Oklahoma. They are Gerry Mullaney, Eugene Bird, Hazen Wilcox,
and Darrah Cutter.
Altogether our music department has had a profitable year under the
direction of Miss Zimmerman and Mr. Brown.

District Music Contest g
Anoka competed in the Fifth District Music Contest on May first, at the
Mechanic Arts High School in St. Paul. We were entered in thirteen divisions.
and after practising daily for some weeks, we felt sure of a creditable showing,
and we made itf Anoka's winnings were as follows:

MIXED QUARTET-Third Place
"Life's Lullaby" by Lane.
"Spanish Dance" by Moszkowsky.
"Polish Dance" by Scharwenka.
STRING ENSEMBLE-Third Place
"Evening Star" from Tannhauser by Wagner.
BRASS QUARTET-Second Place.
"Minuet" by Beethoven. -
Anoka won Hrst place in the district with 78 points. Our five groups
winning first place will go to the state music contest which will be held at the
University of Minnesota, May fourteenth and fifteenth. The festival will be
held in the Northrop Auditorium.
At the close of the district contest, the district festival was held in the
music room of the Mechanic Arts High School. This festival is an annual
"affair" following the district contest, and bids for the interest of all con-
testants. In the festival selected numbers are rendered by a mass glee club,
composed of all glee clubs who have taken part in the contest.
At the close of the festival the honors are announced.
Anoka High School has set up a record of which the Seniors are proud.
We wish success to our excellent instructors, and to our fellow underclassmen in
the Department of Music, in time to come.
