PTA The Parent Teachers Assoclatxon has 566 members for the year 1953 54 Mrs Jay C Th1ne 1S presldent The Annv1lle branch of the PTA was organ lzed 1n 1943 and meets monthly w1th the followmg objects 1n mmd To promote the welfare of chlldren and youth 1n the home school church and communlty To ra1se the standard of homel1fe and to br1ng 1nto closer relat1ons the home and the school so that parents and teachers may cooperate lntelhgently 1n the tra1n1ng of the chlld To secure adequate laws for the care and protectlon of ch1ldren and youths 1S another lmportant object the PTA hopes to accompl1sh Another objectmve 1S to develop between educators and the general publlc such unlted efforts as w1ll secure for every ch1ld the h1ghest advantages 1n physlcal mental soc 1al and sp1r1tual educat1on One of the f1rst problems faced by the newly orgamzed group was to fmd ways of overcommg the shortage of entertalnment for the youth of the com mun1ty Prof Edward P Rutledge acted as the temporary chalrman at the f1rst meetlng to d1scuss the organ1zat1on of a local un1t of the Parent Teach ers Assoc1at1on Mr James Gordon Starr was also 1nstrumental 1n the found mg of the organ1zat1on The members suggested that a phys1cal educat1on course be 1nst1tuted IH the Annvllle School System The ASSOC1at1OH also sponsored the f1rst Cub Pack Movement 1n Annv1lle w1th J Gordon Starr as Cubmaster The Teen age Dances w1th Mr Rutledge as Cha1rman for many years commun1ty playground and fluorme treatments g1ven to schoolch1ldren have been the major projects undertakenby the group 6 O O 9 . . . . . . . . n I J 9 ' 1 I I 7 0 ' - .
