Dld you ever stop to thlnk how approprlate the words
of a popular song can be at certaln tlmesf for the gradu
atlng Senlors Turn Back the Hands of Tlme seems to
have been wrltten just for them just for th1s occaslon
Come w1th me and let s go back a few years
Here we are ln the halls of XHS Do you remember
the first tlme you were here back 1n September of 1912 9
There was nothmg so strlklngly dlfferent here The
laughmg crowds were not dlfferent from the ones you
had seen at the pool last summer met at the drugstore
for a coke or gone to the movle Thmgs dldnt mean
very much to you then You were too new and all the
upper clas men were o dlstant and wlse' The teachers
were just llke the teachers you had always known the
assembly programs hadnt changed the football games
were just football games lt dldnt really matter to
you whether we won or lost
Toward the end of the year two thing happened to
help you feel more like one of the old tlmers Flrst was
the Student founcnl conventlon Remember the thrlll 1t
gave you when you were asked to show a v1s1tor through
AHS? Durlng the tour you became aware of the proud
feellng lt gave you to polnt out our llbrary or gym You
were beglnmng to feel that thls was actually your school'
Then a llttle later came the day you had planned for
months Nlothmg was gomg to stop the best Sophomore
Semor PICHIC' ever glven and lt dldnt dnl lt, The
ram dld slow down actlvltles a blt but nelther splrlts
nor appetites were dampened ln the least You shrugged
lt off wlth a laugh and jomed ln the fun These Senlors
weren t so dlstant and strange after all' You went home
wlth a very satlsfied feellng Your first blg project had
been successful'
After the summer vacatlon you were actually lookmg
forward to school agam ln the fall of 1913 A Jumor'
" TURN BAUK THE HANDS 0F TIME
Roll back the sands of time,
Bring back our dream devine,
Let's live it over again."
How wonderful 1t sounded' Thls was to be a red letter
year for you You found that you were ln a go getter
class for sure For the first tlme a ueens float was
made for the Homecommg parade and competltxon
between class floats was held Remember the rush to
get th1s and buy that? You worked and worked Flnally
the last napk1n was tucked lnto place and off you rolled
toward Noble Street Dothan s ID a Stew came through
and won first place Remember the cheerlng at the game
that mght when It was announced' You found yourself
yell1ng wlth the crowd because thls was your vlctory too
Early ln the year you helped cut the pattern for the
,Iumor Senlor Banquet whlch would honor the Semors ln
the sprlng You were determ1ned to help make thls the
blggCSl and best banquet ever to be glven at Ann1ston
Hlgh Flrst was the task of decldlng on a theme After
many meetlngs and dlscusslons you declded on Des
tlnatlon Statlon Commlttees were set up and the work
started You learned what lt was to co operate and glve
up a few pleasures for the sake of the banquet You
found on whom you could depend to get the job done
Fmally the program was ready the food was ordered
so on w1th the banquet' Dldnt the audltorlum look
grand? You were beammg all nlght The whole evenlng
was wonderful and you had helped to make lt so'
When your class declded to order Semor rlngs durmg
your Junlor year you were among the first to put ln
your order Then you wore yours all summer wlth that
Semor to be alr
Fmally September 1934 rolled round and you were
officlally a Semor' It dldn t take you long to get used to
the routlne agam You helped a few Sophomores to flnd
classes or showed them to the cafeterla Then you stood
back and wondered has lt been that long? And then
you I'CE1l1ZCll that lt had
Remember the day Sammle Clnn was elected Presl
dent of your class? Other officers elected that day were
Fred GlbbS Vlce Presldent ,lean Bagley Secretary and
Jlmmy Trotter, Treasurer You left the audltorlum
thmkmg what flne officers had been chosen and to what
a wonderful all around class you belonged
The Alabama Conference H1 Y Conventlon was held
at Ann1ston th1s year too The dutles you had vaguely
heard of belng done became your dutles your ICSPOHSI
b1l1t1es the c1t1zensh1p that went home wlth the three
0 clock bell last year stayed on Thus was true too when
you had a part ln the fall play I Remember Mama
You dld thlngs now and felt a sense of responslblllty
