Text from Pages 1 - 64 of the 1960 volume:

4f l -Z MMMM V , ask -41 c i K DEDICATION For ten years, Mrs. Russell, you have carried an impression of our school, far and wide, to many whose only knowledge of the Seminary has been through your representation. You have united past, present and future Annies into a family of unusual strength and effectiveness. Nearly all who know Annie Wright know also your quick charm, ready humor and constant concern, which are as happily evident within the school as without. You have represented us, Mrs. Russell, the students; we are deeply grateful for that service. ALMA MATER Hail to thee our Alma Mater, Seminary Fair. May achievements crown thy labors Is our earnest prayer. Deep and true as those blue waters Thou arc reared above. May the characters thou moldest, Hold thee in their love. Pure as yonder snow clad mountains Where our glances fall, May we in the years to follow, Answer to thy call. Chorus Hearts turned toward our Alma Mater, May our lives at length Prove thy daughters bear thy motto On from Strength to Strength. MISS RUTH JENKINS Headmistress How can we express what we wish to convey. For several months you were travelling in Europe, yet you were never in any way apart from us. Throughout this year, we have been continually aware of your presence within the school, so forceful, so guiding, that no abse nce could weaken its impression upon our actions and attitudes. New responsibilities, new independence have strengthened us. And, certainly, in 1939-60, we have realized and appreciated more than ever before, the depth and breadth of your influence upon each of us. Book of books, our people ' s strength, Statesman ' s, teacher ' s, hero ' s treasure, Bringing freedom, spreading truth, Shedding light that none can measure: Wisdom comes to those who know thee, All the best we have we owe thee. ' MISS NANCY FITZWILLIAMS Your capabilities and judgment have been invaluable in the past year as you piloted us through foreign waters. We have admired, before, the blend of warmth and efficiency which never fail you, no matter how deeply involved you are in the many aspects of school life. But that admiration has grown in these months of cooperation. You are a friend in the truest sense. Left: The Rt. Rev. Stephen Fielding Bayne, Jr., President of the Board of Trustees 1947-59. Linda Larson at the threshold of wisdom . SENIOR CLASS What is a Senior? A varying mixture of fear and relief. She is perched on the top rung of one lad- der, beneath the bottom rung on another. There is a dizzy, exhilarating climb ahead; below, mem- ories form a solid, re- assuring foundation for the next ascent. She has not reached an end; she has reached a new begin- ning.
