Tree planting is a part of the Commencement ceremonies for the Class of 1954, just as it was for the above-picrured class of 1904, as it has been in the years between and will be in the years to follow. But time.honored and meaningful as this custom has become, for us this year there will be a change, for the person whose guidance in the tree planting had become as much a pan of the school as the tradition itself, will not be here. ARTHUR O. REYNOLDS 1878 - 1954 Anhur Reynolds, who for thirty years was the gardener for The Annie Wright Seminary, was also the last member of the Staff linking the Semi- nary of today with the old school. His death this spring deprived us of one whose many contribu- dons to our school now become their own best tribute to his memory and lie all about us in the beauty of the grounds he planned and so devoted- ly labored to maintain. Though we miss him, he cannot be truly gone while the loveliness he brought about remains, and for this same reason we know his work was its own reward for him. We have been enriched not only by his example but by our d.iiU mioymcnr of what his efforts achieved. The Seventieth Class to graduate from The Annie Wright Seminary has reached, as every class must, the end of its particular activities. Half in reluctance, half in pleasure we write finis to this scroll, knowing that our affectionate memories live not only in the record we leave behind but in the aspirations we take with us into the future.
