SENIOR CLASS The year is 1951. I have just graduated from Annawan High School. Through some strange in- heritance I have been granted the sole use of the new invention Time Marches On. This is a ma- chine that automatically, through super-atomic power, transfers me to the moon where a Future- scope allows me to see into the future. l am now on the moon and have the Futurcscope set for 1961. I see an Agricultural Research Farm located at Fggstaff, Arizona. It is owned and run by Harold Pritchard. Harold is always working on experi- ments. Right now he is trying to prove which came first. the chicken or the egg. I hope this doesn't turn out like the one he tried in Chemistry class back at Annawan High in '51. To those who were not there, it landed on the ceiling. As I sight a little farther east I see a big plane landing and the air stewardess, Shirley Polson, is escorting the fabulously rich old schoolmate, Donna Clementz, from the plane. lJonna's husband made his fortune when he discovered the fountain pen that writes under water. Shirley is her personal air stewardess. Among Donna's many other employees at her home at Pudock. Arkansas, is Marilynn Uf- hcil, the governess. Marilvnn takes care of l,Ul1lI.Il'i two-year old twins. Across the miles I can see a town that looks familiar. There seems to be a college in the center. Yes, it is lVestern State Teachers College in Ma- comb, Illinois. Out on the football field I see a football scrimmage in action. Someone calls, Coach Oleson, did you tell me to run around that man or lie down inifront of him? Sure enough, there is an old schoolmate, Ronald Oleson, coaching the Varsity Football team. I hope he teaches them to block the wav he did on the Annawan football team. Looking into the main building I see a Home- making class in session. At the front of the room the teacher is telling the students to be sure to know the Basie Seven. lVait a minute, that teacher is none other than Margaret Browning. lVe always won- dered if Margaret would become a teacher or go into Nurses Training. Leaving Macomb, I focus my Futurescope for :I few minutes to watch a Physical liducation class at a small high school near mv old home town. I be- lieve the town is Manlius. The girls seem to be in good form, but then thev should be with Dorothy De Splinter as their teacher. She is demonstrating the one-handed backboard shot that Mrs. Peek taught her. Dorothy is still wearing sweatshirt No. 6. Turning back toward Annawan I look around at the many farms. There are many new farm homes added .iiuumi Annawan since 1951 but one espec- ially catches my eye, and no wonder-the name on the' mail box is Mr. Keith Spears. Yes, and I sec Keith going from place to place in his atomic- propelled helicopter-ieep supervising the many farm hands he has working for him. I am sorry that I do not have time to keep my Futurescope focused a PROPHECY little longer here and try to find out who is doing the cooking for Keith. just now I see a big cloud of dust accompanied by a terrible noise and out of this cloud of dust comes Croegacrt the Great. Leroy has lust won first place in the Stock Car Race. He seems to get a thrill out of the ricle as well as the monev he earns. Iimerging from the rear of l,eroy's' ear, L'Croegaert the Great, wearing wind proof cover- alls and helmet is Leroy's personal mechanic. Dave Marchand. Good luck to you boys. Looking back to the old home town I notice a new garage built right in the center of town. Look- ing closer I see it is a Chrysler-Studcbaker Garage and owned by Bob Nowers and Don Bradley. It seems that Bob has broken the world's record as the Chrysler-Studebaker salesman and Don is the chief mechanic who supervises the chain of Chrys- ler-Studebaker Garages all over the United States. The next thing that comes into my view is an Army Camp somewhere in Kentucky. As I look into the Captain's Office I see a very familiar face sitting at the receptionist desk. Yes, it is Sergeant Sue Nelson, private secretary to the captain. Shc's still unattached. Turning from the army camp I final myself look- ing at what seems to be millions of huge buildings, All these buildings have the name GRII7P'S ICX- CLUSIVIC FROM HOLLYIVOOIJ. Mary Anne has taken over and enlarged Louella Parson's iob as HolIywood's gossip columnist. Another chain of buildings nearby has the name MOON'S ATOMIC TAXI SICRYICIC FROM NICXY YORK TO LOS ANGl'iI.l ,S. Bubbles Moon is the proprietor and main driver-the make of her taxies are Chrvslers or Studcbakers-if that means anything. i Looking further down the street I see an artist busily 'painting the portrait of Gregory Bushel. It is jennet Van I-Iyfte who has just won the XVorld's Side XVaIk Portrait Contest with her portrait of the son of the King Confuctiorious the IC f99thI- the Prince Moronius, of Sieamcathy. It is rumored that the Prince is jcnnet's fiancee. I forgot to tell you that I am the Cinderella of the Futurescope. Like Cinderella, I must return to the earth after a given length of time and discon- tinue the use of this wonderful invention. My time is almost up and I must prepare to re- turn to earth-but wait-what is that I hear-it is music, someone is singing here on the moon. I recognize that voice-it is Rodney Zinser's-he is here on the moon directing a choir of the most beautiful creatures I have ever seen. I aln indeed sorry that my time is up and I can not speak lo Rodney-how did he get up here, and who are those wonderful singers he is directing? But I must be going. Please contact me in the future when I have a new allotment of time to explore into the future with the FUTURIQSCOPIC.
