NEWS BITS Chain Gilt Sponsored by FFA The Annawan FFA has sponsored a chain gilt within their own circle to help new members get started on a project. One of their members, Dave Marchand, last year won 15175 in prize money with his hogs. There are 48 projects in the club that will have a total market value estimated at 37S12,00O. A Iazz Band Being Organized by Mr. Vitro A jazz band is being organized by Mr. Ben Vitto, band instructor. Those taking part will be Ronald De Splinter, trumpet, Arvin jackson, trombone: Joan Morisette, piano, and Sharon Ufheil, saxo- phone. Bonnie Norway and Arden VVilliams are new members added to the school band. Bonnie plays the baritone horn and Arden plays a cornet. Annawan GAA initiates 16 Girls. Sixteen new members were initiated into the Annawan high school Girls' Athletic Association Monday evening, in connection with the annual Christmas party. The president, Lolabelle Hansen, presided at the regular business meeting. The vice-president, Mari- lyn Keim, secretary, Virginia Sniderg treasurer, Jenner Van Hyfte, song leaders, Mary Ann Grvpp and Shirley Polson, and the different committee chairmen were present to fill their places. The trip to Rock Island to see ulloliday On lee and selling food at auction after the Annawan- Mineral game, Dec. 12, were the business matters discussed. The new members were presented a skit, that brought out the aims, advantages, and enioyments offered by the GAA, bv several club members be- fore they took the pledge. Gifts were distributed and the girls and their sponsor, Mrs. Ramah Peek, played a 6-team volley- ball tournament. Captain Marian Dhamer's team defeated Captain Donna Mae Clementz's team by one point after two overtimes. Supt. Ralph A. Osborn and Principal and Mrs. Alfred Fhrig were guests. Two Annnfwan Srrwlenfs to Xvluxic Camp Miss Charlene Parker, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. james Parker, and Miss Marilyn Keim, daughter of M1'. and Mrs. Fred Keim, have been chosen by the Annawan junior YVoman's club to be sent to Egyptian Music Camp at De Quoin for one week. Plan Teacher Program for H07lIC7lIdkiI1g Dept. The homemaking department of Annawan high school will start a teacher-training program lllarrll 12 to continue to the end of the school year. Misses Nellie Clausen, of Cortland, Ill., and Donna Carlson, De Kalb, senior girls majoring in hom: economics education at Northern Illinois State Teachers College, will have the opportunity lo :ee and participate in actual classroom and seliofvl, techniques of teaching homemaking. They will teach the different homemaking classes, and be able to give the students individual help, participate in Future Homemaking association activities and will be here for several adult classes and observe the whole unit system in operation. Two GAA Girls to Northern GAA Camp Rosemary YVancket and Susan De Decker will represent the Annawan GAA at Northern Leader- ship Camp held at Conference Point Camp, Hfil- liams Bay, VVisconsin, .Iune 10-17. ln addition to the valuable associations with other GAA girls and the wonderful time participating in the various sports and classes the girls learn many rules, regulations and GAA ideas and return to their home school better prepared to be leaders in their own organization. Mineral Nipx Annawan Five by 4 Points Coach Ollie Jochums' Mineral high school cagers scored a thrilling 66-62 non-league overtime victory over Annawan here Friday night. The two teams battled to a 58-58 draw in regulation time. Annawan led 24-22 at the intermission but Min- eral managed to tie the count in a nip-and-tuck second half. Bill Baird sparked the Leopards in the overtime with two baskets. Ben Morey took scoring honors for Mineral with 19 points. Don Bradley of Anna- wan led both teams with 20. Nowers scored 15 points, Bradley 20, R. De Splinter 7, Don De Splinter 0, Doubler 14, Spears 6. Annawan 'T7'i7lI.V Lyndon Prep Cagerx-55-35 Annawan's prep cagers bounced back from last Tuesday's 90-28 defeat at the hands of Prophets- town to whip Lyndon, S5-35, in a non-conference game here Friday night. The victory was revenge for the Braves who dropped a 32-29 decision at Lyndon earlier this season. Don Bradley paced Annawan with 14 points. Bob Nowers had 15 and Del Doubler added 12. Keith Spears added 8 points and Price, Nelson, and Keeley added 2 points apiece, Ronnie De Splinter and Don De Splinter added a free throw apiece, and Augie De May did not score.
