S. junior Play to be Given Friday Beauty and the Beef, a comedy in three acts, has been chosen by the junior class to be presented Friday evening in the high school gymnasium, at 8 p. m., under the direction of Mrs. Lois Allen. A performance will be given Thursday afternoon for the grade children. Annafwan Sr. Clam Flay lVell Received The Brain Storm, a comedy in three acts, pre- sented by the senior class of the high school Friday evening, was received by a great ovation from a large crowd. Keith Spears presented Mrs. Lois Allen a gift in behalf of the senior class for directing the play. The band played selections directed by Ben Vitto. Arden Nowers played an oboe solo, HSilver Threads Among the Gold and Marlene De Splint- er played a flute solo, Fiesta, accompanied by Carol Machesney at the piano. NEWS BITS Annafwan Athletes Awarded Letters at Banquet livery boy is of great value to the team and no matter how good one player may appear to be, he cannot get along without his teammates, Dike lfiddleman, Tri-city Blackhawk basketball player, the guest speaker at the annual athletic banquet said Tuesday evening, April l0. One hundred fifteen person attended the banquet which was served by the mothers. The tables, decorated by the Girls' Athletic Association, carried out the football and basketball theme. The speakers' table was centered with a cleverly drawn football player. Other tables were centered with megaphones and pennants with the names of basketball teams inscribed on them. During the year the team has had three coaches. Coach Ben Odum was called into service in Feb- ruary and the team was then coached by Prin. A. lfhrig who was later relieved by Coach Fred Parks. The program was in charge of jay Bridges, master of ceremonies. Letters were presented to cheerleaders, Sue Nel- son, Marilynn Ufheil, Mary Anne Gripp, joan Morisette, joan Grypp, Sharon Ufheil, and Betty and Stella Andrews. Principal Ifhrig presented the special athletic scholarship award to three junior boys, Arvin jack- son, Delner Doubler, and Ronald De Splinter. These boys are now members of The National Athletic Scholarship society of secondary schools, which requires them to be lettermen and leaders in their class. Their average school work for three consecutive semesters must be equal or higher than the average of the school and they must have ex- emplified the higher type of citizenship and sports- manship. They received a certificate of membership and 1 scholarship pin. This award is given annually to boys who meet these requirements. Last year Les Stockton, Robert Nowers, Keith Spears, and Ronald Oleson were given this award. A film of the basketball game between Bradley and St. john's was also shown. Scholarship Banquet Held at Annafwan High Annual scholarship banquet was held at the high school Thursday evening, April 26, honoring the following students having the required average in grades for the year: Adrianna Blackert, Donald Foerdcr, Bonita Norway, Margaret Powell, Virginia Quaife, John Simaytis, Joanne Talbot, Marilyn Thompson, Marlene Vyneman, August De May, Marian Dhamers, Joan Grypp, Clar- ence Miller, Dale Nowers, Ethei Shaw, Carolyn Som- mers, Ronald De Splinter, Arvin Jackson, Marian Jor- gensen, Marilyn Keim, Betty Monson, Joan Morisette, Charlene Parker, Betty Seyller, Rosemary Waneket.
