FRESHMAN CLASS HISTGRY AY, The Freshman Class started the year of 1949-50 with 21 members. Frances Pearson from Africa and jim lieeley of Galva were welcomed additions during the year and making our class number 23. Although we have been timid Cand maybe a little green J beginners in Good Old Annawan High we have tried to add our part to the activities of our school. Cheerleaders elected from our class were Sharon Ufheil and joan Grypp. Five freshman girls joined the Girl' Chorus. These girls were jean Ann Decker, Lorraine Oleson, Carolyn Sommers, joan Grypp, and Vera Van l-Iyfte. Five of our class joined the band: Dale Nowers, Marian Dhamers, Ethel Shaw, Sharon Ufheil, and joan Grypp. ln athletics the freshman boys held a high percentage out for Football, Basketball, and Track. Most all of the freshman girls will make their Fresh- man Award in G.A.A. and several of them took part in the swimming and bowling program. Our float in the Homecoming Parade won second place. Our slogan was: Mineral Burgers. One of our first impressive experiences in high school was given us by the sophomores in the way of initiation. The boys wore high heels with hose, girls' shorts, blouses, and a hat. The girls wore men's shirts, ties, shoes, knee socks with garters and peddle pushers. VVe carried the books of our superior sophomore school mates in a large pail. All of us had to carry a tomato and egg in our pockets and give away candy and gum to the sopho- mores. XVe have worked hard and wish to thank our teachers for helping us when we needed it so we may become worthy upperclassmen.
