. l - SENIOR CLASS HISTORY ale September 3, 1946, twenty-four very green and inexperienced students began their freshman year at Annawan High with Pauline Swirmicky as our sponsor. XVe'll probably never forget our so-called first party given by the sophomores. Yes, it was our initiation. Pajamas, green ribbons, bare feet, nightcaps and make-up and curlers so generously supplied by the sophomores made us really feel dressed-up. March I7 we acted as host and hostess to a roller skating party at Kewanee, and in May we introduced the freshmen of '47 to the high school. XVe finished the year with 22 members as lilsie Schouteet left us during the year. The class officers who piloted us through the year were: President, Shirley Shawg Vice- President, Carol Nowers, Secretary, XVard johnsong Treasurer, Gretchen johnson, and Student Council Representative, Shirley Shaw. Again in 1947 we enrolled on September 3 but as sophomores instead of freshmen. Audrene Swearingen, Patty Marsh, and Richard Vandemore, did not return with us but by the transfers from Hooppole our enrollment of 26 gave us the honor of being the largest class in school. Our Hooppole students were: Donna Price, Marilyn Ifehlman, Avis Greenwood, Vernon Blackert, Charlotte Greenwood, and Leslie Stockton. This year we gave the initiation, and was it fun! On lfebruary 10 we sponsored a successful bake sale and saved the money for our junior year to be used for the junior-Senior Prom. Those who guided us through our sillv sophomore year were: President, Shirley Shaw, Vice-President, Marilyn DeMinkg Secretary, XVard johnson, Treasurer, lilaine Van Hyfteg Class Reporter, Donna Price, Student Council Representatives, Shirley Shaw and Gretchen johnson, and Sponsor, Mr. Alfred lihrig. September 3 seemed to be our lucky date so we started our 1948 jolly junior year on September 3. By the loss of Alice XVhittington and Bonnie Nannaga our class was reduced to 24. Miss Betty Ohlmacher was our Sponsor, lilaine Van Hyfte, Presidentg Donna Price, Vice-Presidentg Carol Nowers, Secretary, Marlene Gripp, Treasurer, and XVard johnson and Elaine Van Hyfte, Student Council Representatives. Our big events of the year were our class play, lVe Shook the Family Tree, and our junior-Senior Prom. Twenty-two, would'be, sophisticated seniors entered A.H.S. on August 29, I949. Avis Greenwood became Mrs. Paul Rose during the past summer and Shirley Clementz moved to Galva. During the first semester Marilyn Fehlman left school and beginning the second semester Shirley Clementz rejoined us, leaving our class with the enrollment of 22. Under the able leadership of our officers and sponsor our senior year has been marked with many outstanding events. XfVe chose as our motto: Forward Everg Backward Never , as our class colors: white and goldg and as our class flower, the white rose. One of our first projects was entering our float, The Braves, in the Homecoming Parade. September 15 was a great dav for us when Mr. Paul took our senior pictures and when our sponsor, Mr. lihrig, took our orders for graduation invitations and name cards we began to have some hope of graduating. Our play, Inner XVillie, produced Linder the able direction of Mrs. Allen, was given April YI The production of the Annual, under the efficient direction of Mrs. Ramah Peek and the hard work and leadership of our editor, Marilyn DeMink, assistant editor, Donna Price, and our business managers, Marlene Gripp and Carol Nowers, has been a huge undertaking for us and we hope a success. On May 20 we took a 24-hour trip to St. Louis. Mr. Osborn. Mr. Lfhrig, Mr. Hamm, Mr. Bridges, and Mr. lCdwin liarley were our chaperones. VVe termi- nated our high school days with Baccalaureate Services and Commencement and move on- leaving our vacancy to be filled by the '50 juniors. Happy going, juniors!
