Present Executive Officer 4 Commander John P, McQuillin was graduated from the University of Idaho and concurrently commissioned Ensign in June, 1951. He married the former Marilyn L. Haney in June of 1958. The McQui11ins now make their home, with their three daughters - Susan f8J, Kathy f6J and Nancy Q41 - in South Pasedena, California, although their present resi- dence is in Coronado, California. Commander McQuillin brought to his position as Executive Officer of Annap- olis a broad base of experience in the field of communications. Early in his Naval career, as a LTJG, he was the Communications Officer of USS Electra QAKA-45. More re- cently, he spent two years as Communications Officer on the staff of Commander, South Atlantic Force, where he was promoted to his present rank on 1 October, 1965. After his tour at COMSO- LANT, CDR McQuillin headed the Communications Readiness Branch of Director Naval Communi- cations OPNAV, In the year prior to assuming his duties on Annapolis, CDR McQuillin was Deputy Assistant Commander for Operations and Readiness at Naval Communications Command in Washing- ton, D,C , In other facets of his Naval career, CDR McQuillin has been involved in a variety of shipboard assignments., As an Ensign he spent a year aboard USS Okanogan fAPA-2205 as Deck Division Of- ficer, He was Operations Officer of USS Leary fDD-8791 where he was promoted to LT in 1955. After training inactive reserves for two years at Headquarters, 3rd Naval District, the then LCDR McQuil1inwas assigned as Engineering Officer aboard USS Henrico fAPA-451 and Executive Officer of USS Cacapon fAO-521. As a student, CDR McQuillin has attended CIC Officer's School in Glenview, Ill. , ECM Officer's School at USNTC, Great Lakes, and twice he has been to USN Post Graduate School in Monterey, California.

Pheasant, a native of Winthrop, Mass., was edu- cated at schools in the Boston area and graduated from Harvard University in 1951, He received his commission as an Ensign at the Harvard NBOTC ur1it. During his first five years in the Navy he served as salvage officer of the Attack Transport USS Montrose QAPA- 212y, as Operations Officer of the Destroyer Escort USS Johnnie Hutchins fDE-60y, and in billets in gunnery, engineering, and personnel adminis- tration in the Cruiser USS Worcester fC L-144yin both6th Fleet and 7th Fleet deployments. After attending the General Line School in 1956-1957, Lieutenant Pheasant then spent two years of Naval Communication Facility, as Traffic and Circuits Officer and later Communications Officer Philippines. He then spent one year as Operations Officer on the staff of Commander Escort Squad- ron Eighteen operating radar picket escort vessels i th Atl n e antic. As a Lieutenant Commander in 1961-1962, he was the Officer in Charge of the Navy Information Center QNAVICJ, the operational computer center for the Chief of Naval Operations in the Pentagon. LCDR Pheasant then served as Executive Officer of USS Purdy fDD-7345 for 18 months. In 1964- 1965, he was a student in the Command and Staff course at the Naval War College In June 1965 he ! received his Master s degree from George Washington University. He then served two years on the staff at the Naval War College as the Officer in Charge of the Navy Electronic Warfare Simulator CNEWS lu- '1 ' ' ' Q, a mu mi lion dollar electronic war gaming center. Commander Pheasant was promoted to his present rank on 1 September 1965. He reported for duty as Executive Officer of Annapolis in July, 1967.
