Senior Class History With the close of our fourth and last high school year, we, the class of 1945 hesitate mom-entarily to recall some of our never to be forgotten memories of our happy, glorious days at A-J. ts all must do, we began as green, young Freshmen, and in the fall of 1941, 145 of us entered -the portals of A-J The class deans who served as our guiding beaconthroughout our hectic inaugural year were: Miss Clara A. Bartow, Miss Virginia Bubeck, Miss Hazel Dale, Mr. David Stroup, and Mr. Ray Williams. The stu'dent class officers chosen to lead us in 1941-42 w-ere: John S. Rendleman, President, Dorothy Lee Conant, Vice-president, Kathryn.Stockman, Secretaryg and Joy Van Amburg, Treasurer. Bill Hartline was selected as one of the school cheer-leaders, while Jane Karraker and Eddie Joe Howenstein were picked for the Board of Control. Being forever sports-conscious our class contributed Daryl Bishop, Jean Cunningham, Wayne Dusch, and John S. Rendleman to the field of sports, and they proved themselves worthy of the letters they were later to win. Though still underclassmen, we found ourselves more experienced in the every day existence at A-J when we once again entered its halls in the latter part of 1942: The faculty members who served faithfully and efficiently as our class deans were: Miss Clara A. Bartow, Miss Hazel Dale, Miss Anna May Marble, and Mr. David Stroup. Chosen to head our gay, young Sophomore regime were: Eddie Joe Howenstein, Presidentg Bob Kohler, Vice- presidentg Johnnie Rayburn, Secretary, and Bill Hartline, Treasurer. Donald Manus and Jane Karraker repre- sented our class on the Board of Control, and as in the year before, several of our number were members of both the football and basketball teams. - 'Eventually weearned the right to be addressed as upperclassmen, and in the autumn of '43 we became jolly Juniors, 102 of us. Miss Ethel Rhodes and Miss Ruby Bateman replaced- Miss Dale and Miss Marble as class super- visors with the officers being: Rex English, Presidentg Eddie Joe Howenstein, Vice-president, Virginia Brimm, Secretaryg and Louis Karraker, Treasurer. Members of the Board of Control were Jean Johnson and Donald Manus. Jane Karraker presided as head of the Athletic Association and Jean Cunningham, Wayne Dusch, Rex English, John S. Rendleman, and Ernest Treece represented us in the field of sports. Several members were in the annual Speech Plays and our greatest financial success came with the presentation of our Junior Play, Every Family Has One, with a cast consisting of: Millicent Casper, Johnnie Rayburn, Bob Hannum, Kathryn Stockman, Donald Manus, Maxine Mull, Helen Eaves, Ola Housman, Bettie Holt, Tolbert Jones, Eddie Howenstein, and Jane Karraker. Assistant directors were: Rosalee Casper, Leatrice Williams, and Joy Van Amburg. Twelve years of diligent study were finally repaid in full when 88 grave, old Seniors began their final year of high schoolin the latter part of August, 1944. As is customary, many duties lay before us such as having our pictures taken,' class night preparation, graduation exercises, and numerous other activities that were to prepare us for our grand exit. Mrs. Jean Boult and Mr. Earl Wayne Morris. took over positions as deans to replace Miss Rhodes and Miss Bateman. The class officers designated to guide us were: Donald Manus, Presidentg Helen Eaves, Vice-presidentg Millicent Casper, Secretary, and Donald Hankla, Treasurer. Virginia Brimm and Jean John- son were appointed to the Board of Control and Betty Lou Adams was elected head of the Pep Club. Once more we were well represented on both the gridiron and hardwood, with our boys participating in high school sports for their last time. As our final dramatic effort we chose the successful Broadway comedy hit, My Sister Eileen, with the fol- lowing in the cast: Millicent Casper, xKathryn Stockman, Johnnie Rayburn, John S. Rendleman, Eddie Howen- stein, Helen Eaves, Louis Nimmo, Ola Housman, Bettie Holt, Donald Manus, Dorothy Lee Conant, Kilgore Knight, Dorothy Ann Boyd, Jean Johnson, Raymond Peters, Charles Stone, Ralph Lyerla, and Clyde Stewart. The assist- ant directors were: Rosalee Casper, Maxine Mull, and Janet Powles. The entire production was under the capable supervision of Mrs. Edna Gordon, whose unrelenting efforts-made the play a success. With world strife still facing us, we contributed the following members of our class to the armed forces: Wayne Dusch, Navy: Bob Hannum, Navy, Ernest Treece, Navyg and Robert Adams, Merchant Marine. Several others enlisted and were to be called to serve then greatest alma mater of them all-The United States of America.
