DRAMATICS This year the Drama Cluli followed a work- shop pattern, and a variety of activities filled the meetings. During the Country Fair a colorful Va- riety Show was produced to fit the Western Cen- tennial theme. Stage-coach drivers. rugged miners with hearts of gold, pioneer-style handits, and dance-hall girls mingled in kaleidoscopic scenes where vigorous action took the place of subtle plot. As part of the Christmas Pageant a choral reading was presented. Mrs. Backus' reading of Henry James' The Innocents provided several en- joyalmle sessions. Reading together Cyrano de Ber- gerac, the Drama Club aequired'an enduring affection for Rostand's hero. At the close of the year, some scenes from Shakespeare's .Tlif1Slllll- mer Nighfs Dream were played on the lawn. Trees, the flowering horders, and soft green grass helped to give the illusion of a woodland glade. The cluli adviser was Mrs. Backus. and the president, Rolrin Yelland. STAGE CREW Again this year the Stage Crew assumed its position as an active organization in the school. making all the sets necessary for school plays and musicals, and working behind the scenes during the productions. This year's first liig joli for the crew and its chairman, Jeannette Gary, was to make the sets for the NGay Ninetiesq variety show. The next opportunity for the crew to show their skill was in helping to stage the annual operetta. 'fTl1e Forest Prince. The crew painted a forest hack- drop and constructed an impressive throne for the Czar. Everyone agreed that, hy working the eurtain and lights during the production and assisting with that extra hit of emergency work when called upon, the Stage Crew performed in- valuable service in helping to make the oper- etta a success.
