Sophomores must be sophomores but how can they when they do not know each other? The sophomore prom however brought some one hundred and fufty newcomers together for the furst entertaunment of the season Harvey Judson s Arustocrats furnushed the musuc for dancung and the boys and gurls who dudn t dance took advantage of the pung pong and card games To top everythung off the sophomores were treated to the much desured refreshments Events such as the sophomore prom untegrated the sophomores so that they were able to choose capable class offucers Cathleen Hood Duck Walterhouse and Connue Colluns held the offuces of presudent vuce presu dent and secretary respectuvely Cathleen Hood was a member of the Modern Dance Club and was very much unterested un lournalusm Her hugh scholarshup together wuth her cutuzenshup made her an excellent presudent Duck Walterhouse hugh un scholarshup also us probably best known for hus athletuc prowess exhubuted on Ann Arbor Hugh School s bas ketball football and baseballteams Connue Colluns took tume from her secretarual labors to perform her dutues as a member of the Rota Beta Club All three of these offucers were members of theur uunuor hugh school student counculs .X Class of 1942 September 29 R 3 i 2 uf 5 f

The first paper set a high standard that was Z upheld by each succeeding issue. As a result the Optimist, as in previous years, was awarded 2 a first class rating by both the National Scholastic Press Association and the Columbia Scholastic Press Association. Heading the paper this year were Louie Lawton, editor-in-chief, with Dorothy Potts and Miriam Chapin as the front-page women, Sally Peacock and Perry Trytten featuring second page, Helen Hopper taking over third page, and Bob Abbot sporting with the fourth page. Hale Champion, last year's editor-in-chief, remained as columnist. Eleas Vlisides headed the business staff. Mr. Wright, Mr. Allison, and Mr. Wolter ably directed the editorial, business, and printing staffs respectively.
