There was one thought running through a group of boys' minds this fall Football Playoffs. In 1971, the Spartans, coached by Ron Johnson, had a 9-0 record which would have qualified them for playoffs; however, the state series did not begin until 1972 This year those long-awaited goals and dreams became reality. Making a mark in AHS history, the 1985 Spartan football team was the first team to qualify for the Iowa State Playoffs The spark of enthusiasm touched not only the school, but also the community Recapping the season Coach Jim WiHet commented.'‘I was very pleased with the performance of the football team. We had a lot of fun but still worked hard and achieved a lot of success. Everything the football team got, they deserved.
