Phillips Takes Many members of the Spy staff won awards at state competition. Teresa Phillips won an outstanding Iowa Press women award by receiving a 1st place on an editorial; this placed her story in national competition. Alan Pierce also received an honorable mention In editorials from the Iowa Press Women At Maryville Journalism Day.
