MKBBH kM • f • .. |1 » Traditions, they're everywhere, even at AHS. For years, the Youth Center and John Burke have been traditions. The class of '64 opened the Corner Pocket Youth Center. Since that time, seniors have run it with advisor John Burke until last year when mismanagement and low funds forced a closing. Over the summer though, this special corner of the puzzle tried to regain its place at Anita. With the juniors working alongside the seniors, new officers were elected. Pic. 2. - Jack Barber. Frank Rydl. Kay Ehrman. Chris Stork, and Terry Hoskins. When the back wall fell (pic. I), the town came to help and things were looking better when the new wall was put up. Burke spends much time lecturing and discussing the Youth Center as in pic. 3. Brian Purcell lent an artistic hand to the Youth Center when he painted the red. , yellow and blue mural on the walls seen in the background of pic. 4. Places and Faces Change 1 Youth Center

Lyle Schellenberg and Kelly Meyer made a pom pon for Janet Johnson as seen in Pic. I. Janet has been a cheerleader all 4 years of high school. Senior Sheila Wilson models one of the class banners she helped make for Homecoming in Pic. 2. Unfortunately. Sheila's talent went unused when the stage committee opted for cloth banners. They were left hanging over Dee's desk in the commons. Mitch Akers and Jon Hansen are caught supporting their class in the Homecoming parade in Pic. 3. A sampling of the crowds that followed the Spartan football team is shown in Pic. 4. A traveling Pep Band was started, but because of Conference rules, was disband- ed. As an annual fund raiser, the teniort host an ice cream social. In Pic. 5. Scott Lund sets up the pie table as Terry Scarf tries to make a choice. Opening— 3

In these last 25 years. John Burke has seen 1300+ seniors graduate and has been the senior class sponsor for 30 years. 9 with Noel Wingate. Burke spends much time working at the Youth Center as seen in Pic. I with Kelly Meyer. In taking on co-responsibility with seniors, juniors too devoted work to the Youth Center. Pic. 2. Lyle Schellenberg. Steve McAfee, and Roger Simmons repair the ceiling. The juniors and seniors raised a record $1500 at the 17th annual pancake supper. Pic. 4. Dana Cooley and Clint Spry have fun working in the kitchen. Burke's first classes at AHS were English, later adding history and government. Pic. 3. Since the first debate team in 1962. AHS teams have won state in '67, '68. and '74» 2nd at state in 72. 75, ’77. 78. and 82» and earned 3rd this year. The speech teams have set every possible state record with II outstandings and 40 I's at state. The students at AHS have witnessed many comings and goings and yet. Mr. John Burke remains.
