1971 ROYALTY Hectic nights, napkin stuffing, posters and signs came to a climax Thursday night, October 14, as the 1971 Home- coming, with its theme Make Your Own Kind of Music, began with the cheerleaders leading the snake dance, starting at Coach's Corner and continuing to their destination, the football field. Everyone's enthusiasm continued as all took part in the evening's pep rally. Friday's activities began with the coronation of King and Queen. It was filled with sentimental tears and proud smiles as Paul Mailander and Peg Harris were crowned to reign over Spartan Land. The gym was dedicated to Coach Johnson and Coach Jackson through the theme, To Sir(s) with Love. The parade was held downtown as the marching Spartans led the parade, the Booster Club maneuvered their lawn- mowers, and the class floats were also part of the procession. The enthusiasm of the student body was shown at the pep rally held at the bandshell in the park. It was announced that the juniors received first place for their float, Who'll Stop the Reign?, and the seniors took second place. Excitement was capitalized at the Homecoming game when the mighty Spartans rolled over Earlham, 38-0. This year's Homecoming was dedicated to Mrs. Ruby McDermott for her 50 years at AHS. She was presented a corsage at the coronation and a bouquet of red roses at the game. The week's festivities were brought to a close with a pizza party at the school and a show at the local theater.
