SUMMER SPORTS PASS TIME The summer sports program was highlighted by a girls sectional win and a young boys squad with excellent prospects for the future. The girls squad finished second in the Little Eight Conference, losing only to Stuart. They went on to sweep their sectional and were defeated in the last game of the district by Fremont-Mills, who went on to eventually place second in the state. An additional award given to the Spartanettes was that all of the varsity team was named to all conference positions. NEW COACH CREATES CONFIDENCE ENTHUSIASM Newly acquired head coach Ron Johnson, with assistance from Bob Jackson, revived football at AHS. With victories in their first two games, the SPARTANS’ “winning attitude” brought them 5th place in the con- ference. Offensively, the SPARTANS compiled many impressive statistics. Paul Mailander led the conference in individual receiving by grabbing 33 passes for 398 yards and 3 touchdowns. Mike Johnson led the SPARTANS in rushing carrying the ball 106 times for 603 yards for an average of 5.95 yards per carry. Paul Mailander led the squad defensively by making 71 unassisted tackles.
