In addition to this, he is administrator of finances for the school district, and also an active member in community affairs. Although he has many responsibilities, he can usually be seen somewhere along the sidelines, cheering the Anita Spartan teams to victory. He also encourages AHS students to achieve higher academic standing. Eleven members of the AHS student body were elected this 1970-71 school year to Merit’s Who’s Who Among American High School Students. Superintendent Brichacek 8 HAND WITH SCHOLARSHIP Character, promptness and leadership are all traits of AHS’s new principal, Mr. Terry Premus. Mr. Premus, who is the sponsor for the National Honor Society, exempli- fies each of those traits that are required of his students. Besides overseeing the activities of the honor society, he also coordinates all of the other activities involved in keeping Anita High School running smoothly. Kay Steele, elected the most valuable player of the Lenox Tournament, ranked 5th in the state in field goals with 65% and led the Conference in free throws and field goal percentages. Filling out the forward court were Phyllis Stapleton and Kathy Wahlert, noted for their unique set- shots, layups, rebounds, and assists. The Spartans only conference loss was to arch rival CM who defeated them 55 to 52. In the return match at C-M the Spartans revenged their only loss by smashing the Rockets 95 to 50. Coach Dave Boldt states that there arc great prospects tor the future with the loss of only three seniors and return often lettermen. But, positive thinking was not enough as East Union defeated the Spartans in the district. 34 WRESTLERS SHOW FUTURE PROSPECTS The 1970-71 wrestling season was an experiencing year, turning in an 0-8 dual meet record. The season turned into a rebuilding year for the wrestling program with 17 wrestlers reporting for the season including 6 seniors, 4 juniors, 4 sophomores and 3 freshmen. Unlike the past, Anita entered their duals with a chance to win and did scare a few opponents. The best record by an Anita grappler was an 8-2-2 record posted by senior 132 Iber. Lynn Stephenson. Anita's Dan Larsen at 105 placed 3rd at the Coon Rapids Tournament and Randy Aggen at 112 lbs. and Dennis Wheatley at 138 lbs. finished 4th. The season gave experience to the inexperienced and with a junior high program underway, rebuilding of the wrestling program is under way and should improve next year. Paul Blazek, Is familiar to all. Moving here this summer, John became catcher of the Anita's baseball team and now that foot- ball season is here he is seen playing full- back on offense and linebacker of defense. John, a sophomore, lived in Des Moines lled into study hall where i ! (what a time for the fum the blink), anyway’—there i oLuu uis clutching their coats for dear life, and talking just a little too lo (I guess they wanted to get some body h moving.) Wouldn’t you know that at th time Mr. Jackson would have to say, is no time for Hot Air, It's a study hall As I craftily sneaked down the «airs ; EDITORS RECEIVE QUILL SCROLL Quill Scroll members- Kirk Brockcr, Lyneltc Hansen, Connie Holaday, Jan Butler, Brenda Margin, Connie McLaughlin, Vickie Bernhardt, Jim Morgan, Kay Steele. Just as Robin Hood and his merry men roamed the forests of Sherwood in quest of triumph, so do the lords of Anita High School search their domain for victory. The Spartans were victorious in this year’s home- coming as they defeated the Menlo Cardinals, 36-14. Seniors top underclassmen with “Sherwood Like A Crowning Victory.’ 56 “THE LORDS OF SHERWOOD FOREST’ Sophomore Attendants------- Gndy Richter and Jim Mailander Sophomores help pave the way with “The Road to Victory.” Freshmen, building their first float, use the theme, “History Repeats Itself.” Freshman Attendants---- Carol Holaday and Gary Harris “LI’L LOUDER HOLLER The shootin’ and feuden’ hillbilly antics were brought to reality by the creation of the class of ’71’s “LiF Louder Holler in Hill- billy Heaven.” Prom guests enjoyed an evening of the rustic outdoors amidst pine trees and cabins complete with an abandoned mine, lovers’ leap, and bubbling still. While listening to the music of “The Soul Vibra- tions”, guests could stroll through the forest or prospect for gold in the old mine. The end to a heavenly evening and prom 1970 came all too quickly with a foot- stomping hillbilly jig. 58 IN HILLBILL Y HE A VEN” The hillbilly “chillin’’ who entertained and served the people at “Lil’ Louder Holler’’ were Peg Harris, Dennis Heath, Sharon Stapleton, Paul Mailander, Becky Karns, Mike Johnson, Mary Kaiser, Ed Brown, Kathy Stanley, Bill Wohlleber, Corrine Harris, and Bob Ehrman. 59 PROM TAKES SHAPE THROUGH SECRECY Top Row -Kirk Brocker, Bethel Kopp, Dick Dorsey, Dennis Wheatley, Helen Baylor, Melva Walters. As we leave the spirit of the purple and white behind us, we can only stop and relive the many joys and tribulations we have exper- ienced. The Class of '71 has had its share of down- falls as well as many accomplishments to be proud of. SENIORS SA Y FINAL FAREWELL From the time a person is born until the time he dies, he encounters a variety of experiences, many of which occur in high school. An individual finds a time to learn as he studies the many different subjects offered at Anita High while instructors devote much time to providing knowledge necessary for a successful future. There is a time to compete and a time to associate with fellow students in school activities. There is still another time to merely sit and listen to a friend’s problems or just talk. As he prepares for the future, each student takes with him the experiences he has accumulated during his four years at Anita High. For these various experiences, there is, and always will be “Time.” P. 0. Box 36 Marcelme, Missouri 64658 Telephone (816)376-3523
