UCPC brings Katherine Brady cannot stop talk- ing about incest, not until it stops. The author of Father's Day, the first book addressing the problem of incest, Brady spoke to an audience of about 170 in the UC Ballroom Oct. 9. Brady told the audience that one out of every three women is sexually abused during her life. Most abusers show no outward signs of their dis- turbed emotional states she said. Incest victims, on the other hand, do show outward signs of their abuse. Children may act out their abuse with others or may include genitals or weapons in their drawings Brady . said. 'i Brady involved the audience in ' three skits that demonstrated differ- ent forms of sexual abuse of women. One type of abuse affecting college women Brady called date acquaint- ance rape. Brady explained that this happens when a woman is pressured into having sex with a man she has just met and dated. This often hap- pens, she said, when dorm doors are locked and the woman must stall her date until help arrives. Brady said her own father began sexually abusing her at 14, and that the abuse continued for 10 years. It was not until the publication of her book that her mother found out. The lecturer uses the name K'Kath- erine Brady to protect her family. She was the second the UCPC wom- en speakers series. Kathryn Brady includes senior history major Rodney Galles in one of her skits. lJim Al- bright l3liolf1J 30 Women speakers S 'Nl X n K . . .431- ' ': -1 A V A- h . w g -, . :- WH- ' A '01 53
