S SHUTCDUT 16-0 The third try was a charm for the Rams in San Angelo stadium Sat- urday, September 22. The ASU young team finally convinced a large crowd they were tired of the previous two ties by defeating Southwest Texas State University 16-O. The win was the first ever for the Rams to beat the San Marcos team in conference play. The Rams, on their first posses- sion ofthe night, drove to the 12- yard line. An incomplete third- down pass at this point set up Mike Goodgion's 29-yard field goal, which ended the scoring for the first half. In the second period of action, Larry Moore smothered the Bobcat kicker at the 5 when the punter could not reach a high center snap. Three plays later, Bennie Wilson jumped over from the two yard line and with the PAT the score stood 10-O. The Rams final tally was also set up by the defense. Roy Holland picked off a pass and returned it to the ASU 46. From there Gary Olivo squig- gled into the end-zone standing up to give the Rams their final points of the night.
