Coach Bumgardner Steps Down After 19 Years Not many men possess a career worthy of having a night declared as his own. But, such was the case of Max Bumgardner, who for 19 years coached San An- gelo College and Angelo State, bringing his team to many victories. The ASC Student Association declared December 14, 1968 as Bumgardner Appreciation Night upon the announcement of his retirement as athletic director and head coach. He assumed duties as ASC intramural director and assistant professor of physical education. At halftime of the ASC-Howard Payne basketball game Rambooster Club President Herb Fulcher recognized Bumgardner for his 19 years in the athletic department. Fulcher presented Bumgardner with a truck and camper as a retirement present. The coach also received a tele- vision set and a Hemphill-Wells gift certificate.
