College Grows From One Building in 1928. . . ln 1926, the trustees of the San Angelo Independent School District began action to create a junior college for their town. In May, 1926, a 5250,000 bond issue was passed providing funds for construction of the first building which was built on San Angelo Independent School District property. This building served until after World War ll. In 1945, the county junior college district was organized and 5400,000 in bonds was issued to build a new college plant at its present location. An administration-classroom building and agriculture building were constructed, and classes were moved to the new campus in 1947. A vocational building also was completed in 1947 as was the gymnasium, part of which was used as a Ram Room and dining hall. Also that year, the home economics building was constructed and three Army surplus buildings were added to the facilities for classrooms, offices, and laboratories. ln 1950, 5375.000 in bonds was issued to finance two dorms, presently Runnels and Mayer, and a dining hall. The President's home was added in 1952. A new agriculture- science building was constructed in 1954. From 1957 through 1959, there was another building to Six in 1947. . . boom. The student center, another girls' dorm, Carr, and stu- dent and faculty apartments were built. Also the old dining hall was converted into a boys' dorm, Concho. The library annex was added in 1964 and supplemental housing grew. In 1965, after Angelo State College had been accepted into the state system of colleges, 52.3 million was appro- priated by the acting legislature and supplemented by US funds for the new 51.5 million library which was completed in 1967 and 51.9 million science building completed in 1968. Also completed in 1968 were a 51.1 million class- room building, 52.1 million women's high-rise dorm, 5550,000 food service center, and the conversion of a house into a temporary infirmary. A 52.1 million men's dorm is presently in construction and should house students in September 1969. Projected for construction, according to ASC's Master Plan, are more dormitories, the enlargement of the present student center, conversion of Concho Hall into an infirmary, new classroom building, married students and faculty hous- ing, and new physical education facilities. -e .iii Vs S
