I ll Ihr,- el 28 rm IIE The increase in enrollment ot San Angelo College brought about the need for further buildings. Last fall 849 students enrolled for on all-time high. building ca new campus San Angelo College has undertaken a million dollar construction program to meet needs brought about by a booming enrollment. The expansion program, slated to be completed by September, calls for the construction of a student union building, faculty and married student apartments, a women's dormitory, and the conversion of the present cafeteria and women's dorm into housing for men students. The buildings will cost more than five times the amount of the original structure completed in 1928. The first building, still in use as part of public school housing, stands on the old SAC campus near downtown San Angelo. A breakdown of the cost of individual buildings show that approximately S500,000 will go for the air-conditioned student union, S300,000 for the new womerfs dorm, 8l50,000 for the faculty-student apartments, 850,000 for the conversion of men's housing and 360,000 for furnish- ings for the new buildings. The student union, showpiece of the project, includes the cafeteria and will take up over 29,000 square feet. The new women's dorm, labeled Carr Hall by the board of trustees, will be located next to the union building. The air-conditioned structure will house approximately 100 women. There is more work that goes into a building program than could be pictured here, but THE BAMBOUILLET would like to give a vague notion of what actually happens. The pains-taking iob of selecting material for the new structures must be accomplished long before the buildings are completed. Mrs. Alleno Westermon, home economics department head, assisted with this task.
