Now in its twenty-second year, SAC may properly be regarded by its stu- dents, its ex-students, its faculty, and its friends as an adult institution in sound educational health and in a handsome physical setting. But complac- ence about its healthy adulthood cannot serve a useful purpose at a time when great potentials of service for our community-area College need ex- ploration and development. In accepting the challenge to explore and develop, the College staff will be alert to the inevitability of change in an era of change, to the importance of versatility in a complex society, and to the possibilities of improvement which exist everywhere. Many of our proper educational functions are still unrealized, and we intend to utilize every resource at our disposal in achiev- ing the exercise of those functions economically and efficiently. We accetpt the responsibility for sharing or supplying leadership in gratifying cultural aspirations inlour area, for continuing to maintain high standards of achieve- ment in our offerings of whatever nature, for being part of the pulsing life of the community, for teaching men and women to be loyal and patriotic American citizens, and for believing that knowledge must be accompanied by moral principles, skills by ethical concepts, capabilities by a sense of duty, and privileges by civic obligations. I sincerely hope that those of you for whom this edition of the Rambouillet must always have a very special meaning will never cease to regard SAC as something like home, that you will think of it with commingled feelings of loyalty, respect, and affection. Iohn A. Guinn President 5

PBESIDENT'S MESSAGE San Angelo College had its Zlst birthday in September, 1949. From the time that its doors were opened in 1928 to a group of 112 students until the pres- ent day, SAC has enjoyed a vigorous existence and a steady gro-wth. The devotion of its staff to high standards of achievement brought the College full recognition and an enviable reputation early in its life. By 1945 the fact had become obvious that in order to meet the challenge of service to a lusty, flourishing section of the Lone Star State, San Angelo Col- lege needed more room and greater freedom of operation than it had. The Iunior College District was reorganized on a county-wide basis and the job of providing a home for the new educational entity was undertaken with very successful results. 4
