FUT RE NURSES OF MERIC F.N.A. group with President Barbara Trenck at one of their monthly meetings. One of the extra-curricular organizations which combines education and pleasure is the Future Nurses of America Club. The purpose of the F.N.A. is to inter- est students in personal and community health and to help them decide wisely about professional or practi- cal nursing as ,a career. This year the F. N. A. has enioyed -many guest speakers who spoke on various phases of nursing. The members also had the opportunity to learn about the activities of a student nurse. The senior members of the Future Nurses of America spent a day in Bridgeport Hospital, where they visited classes and toured the building. Mrs. M. K. Malurky, R.N., was the organizer of the F. N. A. group at Andrew Warde. The advisors are Miss Anno McConnell and Miss Mary Jo Klanick. This year two Jr. Red Cross Councils were formed at Warde, one for Barlow and Mason houses and the other for Smedley and Wolcott. The councils, which were made up of homeroom representatives, had their own advisors and officers. The councils completed several proiects to carry out the J. R. C. purpose, that of creating good will among young people all over the globe. This work is undertaken on local, state and national levels. Two accomplishments were the making of table decorations at Thanksgiving and the purchase of New Year's gifts for the men at the Nike Station. The J. R. C. also sponsored a basketball game between the women faculty and the girls' varsity. The proceeds from the game went towards filling the A. W. H. S. Junior Red Cross chest. When the chest is completed, it will be sent to a foreign high school. Miss Helen Grover was the school-wide J. R. C. advisor. Miss Eleanor Foley advised the Barlow and Mason Council. Its officers were Peg McCulloch, President, Norma Klein, Secretary, Robin Fenning, Vice-President, and Allan Schmidt, TreGSUl'el'. Miss Virginia Emery advised 'll'l8 Smedley CI'lCl Miss Grover plans future activities with Red Cross members Wolcott council and its officers: Susan Setterlund, President, Marilyn Melich, Vice-President, Martha Buzas, Secretary, and Angela Renzulli, Treasurer. 85
