F.T. . According to its officers and active members, the first year of the Future Teachers of America at Andrew Warde was highly successful. Due to the interest shown in the Future Teachers' organization by the faculty and the guest speakers, many students have definitely decided upon a career of teaching. This year, under the able guidance of Miss Ella Rice and Mr. Leonard 'Launer, the F.T.A. has enjoyed a varied and interesting program. Speakers have included the Director of Admissions from New Haven State Teachers' College, a speech therapist, and a representative from New Britain State Teachers' College. The F.T.A. members have seen films pertaining to the various areas of teach- ing, these pictures proved educational as well as inter- esting. Delegates attended two conferences in Hamden and Cheshire, Connecticut. At the beginning of the school year, a meeting was set aside for the very impressive installation ceremony, during which the students repeated the F.T.A. pledge and lighted candles. Miss Mariorie- Banks, sponsor of the Roger Ludlowe F.T.A., spoke about the work of the F.T.A., its aims and ideals, and the work that various chapters throughout the country have accomplished. The Andrew Warde Chapter of the F.T.A. is named for Sylvia B. Johnson, former English teacher at Roger Ludlowe and one of the founders of the F.T.A. there. Officers of the organization are Pam Hill, President, Bruce MacGregor, Vice President, Jean Herman, Record- ing Secretary, Mary Alice Day, Corresponding Secretary, Gail Goulding, Treasurer, and Peggy Karbovanec, Pro- gram Chairman.
