F.T. . According to its officers and active members, the first year of the Future Teachers of America at Andrew Warde was highly successful. Due to the interest shown in the Future Teachers' organization by the faculty and the guest speakers, many students have definitely decided upon a career of teaching. This year, under the able guidance of Miss Ella Rice and Mr. Leonard 'Launer, the F.T.A. has enjoyed a varied and interesting program. Speakers have included the Director of Admissions from New Haven State Teachers' College, a speech therapist, and a representative from New Britain State Teachers' College. The F.T.A. members have seen films pertaining to the various areas of teach- ing, these pictures proved educational as well as inter- esting. Delegates attended two conferences in Hamden and Cheshire, Connecticut. At the beginning of the school year, a meeting was set aside for the very impressive installation ceremony, during which the students repeated the F.T.A. pledge and lighted candles. Miss Mariorie- Banks, sponsor of the Roger Ludlowe F.T.A., spoke about the work of the F.T.A., its aims and ideals, and the work that various chapters throughout the country have accomplished. The Andrew Warde Chapter of the F.T.A. is named for Sylvia B. Johnson, former English teacher at Roger Ludlowe and one of the founders of the F.T.A. there. Officers of the organization are Pam Hill, President, Bruce MacGregor, Vice President, Jean Herman, Record- ing Secretary, Mary Alice Day, Corresponding Secretary, Gail Goulding, Treasurer, and Peggy Karbovanec, Pro- gram Chairman. Members of the F.T.A. consider future plans with a guest speaker. Guests from New Britain State Teachers College show slides to the F.T.A. Row 1:J Piefer, D. Eli C Hum hr M. Pennell S Beardsle E. KOMIAN S Andrew Warde's iunior dramatic group, working under the adopted title of Komians, found themselves in the unique position of lacking a stage on which to rehearse and perform. However, despite the diffi- culties, the show must go on and with the fine acting and strong determination of Komian players success was reached. Through a maze of coffee containers and homework papers Mrs. Katherine Busch and Miss Alice Ogalin could be seen directing student talents Komians and Thespians trying out for their Spring production. in Kaufman and Hart's zany three act comedy You Can't Take It With You. The play was preformed in Roger Ludlowe audi- torium and the audience testified to its success with prolonged applause. The strain of tedious rehearsals and hours of worries combined with opening night litters caused many cast members and also such lead- ing players as Lou Cepero, Kay Levine, Seth Wein- traub, and Fran Pokras to declare they would never be in another play . . . until the next one. Komians l.ou, Ray, Kay, Pete, Connie and Don rehearse for Andrew Warde's first play You Can't Take It With You. Row I: S. Rosenwald, M. Zimmer, S. Feld, G. Griffin, S. Sheatsley, J. Ringelheim, S. THE CRI S N CRIER Young iournalists of the Crimson Crier gather to discuss the next issue. 78 With a new school came the inevitable organi- zation of a new newspaper. With it also came the establishment of a new concept of high school iour- nalism. Wardites were surprised when the first policy stating issue of the Crimson Crier appeared promising the student body more than a series of daily bulletins or gossip . . . news as it happens, the complaints as well as the compliments of readers, and contro- versial matters from all sides.
