KETBALL The varsity 9 were led by their co-captains, Gina Clarke and Jane Pierce. Jane, the team's high scorer, chalked up a total of 96 points in six games, including 25 points against Darien. Jane was assisted in the forward positions by seniors, Sandra Mentes, Carol Terebesi, who was second high scorer, Lynne Abromaitis, and Judy Brown. The guards were Gina Clarke, who also turned in some fine performances as forward, Nancy Clarke, Joan Heady, Suzy Ribner, and Lois Martenson. The Junior Varsity team ended the season with a 2-'I-3 record, and gave many girls an opportunity to participate in interscholastic competition and gain valuable experience for next year. The Burke twins, Denny and Jerry, proved great assets to the team by being high scorers and by con- fusing the opponents, who seemed to think that they were seeing double. JUNIOR VARSITY Row I: J. GIRL 9 Warde's first girls' basketball team, although winning only two out of its six games, succeeded in setting a fine ex- ample of sportsmanship by winning and losing graciously. The Fairfield sextet's most exciting game of the season was Warde's upset of a strong undefeated Westport team by the score of 58-46. Jane Pierce and Carol Terebesi spark- ed the team by scoring 20 points apiece. Sandy Mentes lended strong support by scoring T8 points. TRACK Enthusiastic underclassmen signing up for the track team. Andrew Warde's first track team suffered many hardships this year, but, was able to turn out a promising and spirited team. Due to the fact that the track at Warde wasn't ready, the team couldn't begin its schedule until late in April. Until that time the team worked out on the limited facilities at Warde, and on the Ludlowe track on alternate days. The team also suffered from lack of experience, since it had no Track candidates limbering up. returning lettermen from last year's Roger Ludlowe New England Champions. However, many boys from last year's Ludlowe squad, plus many new boys, came out for track, giving Coach Fern Tetreau hopes for a successful team in future seasons. The first track meet was the Fairfield University Invitation, after which as large a schedule as pos- sible was planned. These underclassmen are Andrew Warde's future track stars.
