Future generations of puck chasers will be faced with the inevitable challenge of equaling the undefeated, un- tied, 6-O record of Andrew Warde's first girl's hockey team. The girls, ably coached by Miss Helen Carroll and Miss Mary Carley, were sparked by strong front line players, Jane Pierce, Judy Ellis, Sandy Mentes, Gina Clarke, and Carolyn Newbold. The strong defensive line, composed of GIRL 9 Nancy Clarke, Carol Terebesi, Lynn Goulding, Chris Lawrie, Gail Goulding, Judy Brown, and Judy Pastore, held their opponents to a single goal for the entire season. The teams that tasted merciless defeat at the hands of the Fairfield Eagles, were Ludlowe, Westport, New Canaan,,Danbury, and Stamford. The Eagles ended their victorious season with the impressive record of scoring twenty-two goals, with Row 7: C. Terebesi, V. Clarke, J. Pierce, S. Mentes, Row 2: J. Brown, C. Lauria, C. Newbold, N. Clarke. Row 3: M. Day, Mgr.: G. Goulding, J. Ellis, L. Goulding, J. Pastore, C. Kopso, Mgr. Warde succumbed to Milford, who took advantage of a tremendous scoring spree, and to the Bassick Lions in a hard-fought game. Our six-game losing streak was terminated at the expense of Bullard Havens on their home court. Warde, leading throughout the game, outrebound and outshot the opponents. Bruce MacGregor was our top scorer with 17 points, followed by Dakai, who dropped in 16. After losing to Prep, the boys tangled with Stratford in the first game at the newly completed Warde gym. The visitors, who had previously sailed to a 71-42 victory, found rough competition this time, although they pulled the game out of the fire in the last quarter, finally winning 55-40. The Eagles next encountered Milford in one of the most exciting games of the schedule. Milford edged by us for a 1 point overtime victory, 63-62. Our boys made a spectacu- lar effort in the closing three minutes of the regulation game, by eliminating an 8 point deficit. Dick Dakai, Lou Kochis, JUNIOR VARSITY Row I: G. Englander, L. Taylor, T. A Get that rebound, Dick! and Bruce MacGreagor led the Warde scorers, hitting 19, 16, and 15 points respectively. Three out of our next four decisions were losses. In the Bassick game Warde made a mediocre showing, but Central and Harding found rough sledding - only piling up their point totals in the dying minutes of each game. Tech again fell prey to the Eagle attack, providing us with a much need- ed victory. The final score was 57-49, as Bruce MacGregor accounted for 19 of Warde's points. The final game of the season saw a return match against Ludlowe. Our cross town opponents, depleted by iniuries and further hampered by top notch Warde team- work, never made a contest of it. The Crimson and White, completely dominating the backboards, always maintained a sizable point advantage. Topping our scoring column were three seniors bowing out of the basketball limelight. Dick Dakai was individual high man with 21, closely-trailed by Bruce MacGregor with 16, and Lou Kochis who dropped in 11.
