After receiving a pass from Rebel , Bob Kasvinsky lateraled to Andy Fertko, who sprinted thirty yards for a six pointer. John Pekar then hauled in two Slesinsky aerials for twenty- one and thirty-two yard gains. This drive culminated in our last touchdown. The game ended in favor of Darien, 50 to 12. The Bassick contest was an unhappy affair. John Pekar and Bob Kasvinsky were both forced to leave the game be- cause of iniuries. For Warde the game ended in a sad loss. The teams best effort, as well as one of the most ex- citing games, was against the Bullard Haven's eleven. Al- though the Tech boys were victorious, the game was nip and tuck all the way. Our only score of the afternoon was gained through a razzle-dazzle play in which Slesinsky passed to Dakai, who in turn lateraled to All Greco. The team had two drives halted within the Bullard Haven ten- yard line. The heralded defense was displayed at its gallant best. Won't get far that way! The first football team to represent Andrew Warde High School, coached by Mr. Fern Tetreau and captained by Russ Jennings and Bob Kasvinsky, was ably managed by Bob Noga and his assistant managers Lenny Blum and John Vince. A successful season was prevented by the lack of ex- perienced players, Kas was the only returning Ietterman on the squad. Although lacking experience, we faced our opponents with spirit and determination. A veteran-filled Greenwich team handed us a 40 to 7 defeat in our first encounter of the season. Ben Slesin sky had the distinction of scoring Warde's first touchdown The touchdown climaxed a sixty-five yard drive, which fea tured the running of Al Greco and Joe Renaud. As a result of breaking his leg during the kick-off, Dick Galley was sidelined for the remainer of the season A strong Milford squad defeated us by a count of 39 to O. Though never striking paydirt, our passing attack netted one-hundred and twelve yards on seven completions. In the Darien game, our offense was sparked by the Fading back for a pass . . . F001 gl

Blum, D. Holmquist, H. Ratnar, Coach Slerup, L. Taylor, T. Tuzzio, R. Noga, Mgr., F. Garrity, Mgr. T The first Andrew Warde basketball team turned in a record of 4 wins and 13 defeats. They twice overcame Ludlowe and Tech. ln the beginning of the season, Coach Bob Seirup counted on seniors, Dick Dakai and Bruce Mac- Greagor, to be the big guns for the Eagles. As the season progressed, Jim Jankowski's agressive play and the heavy scoring of vastly improved l.ou Kochis were invaluable assets to the team. The only two iuniors on the squad, .lack Mentes and Cris Costello, demonstrated some creditable perfor- mances, along with senior, Al Jacobs. Five promising J.V. hoopsters gained experience during the season. They includ- ed Howie Ratner, Tom Tuzzio, Ray Vlader, Doug Holmquist, and Laurie Taylor. Our first contest, which proved to be a 55-52 overtime victory over Roger Ludlowe, took place at the Mill Plain gym. The game was nip and tuck, and tension-packed. At the end of the regulation time the score stood tied at 49. The Warde boys quickly spurted to the lead in the overtime and then protected their lead. Dick Dakai was the outstanding Warde rebounder and scorer, as he tallied 20 points. Jank hit consistently and bucketed 14. Unfortunately for the team, they had to make schedule changes and play all these games away until the new gym was finished. The Eagles played nine away games in a row, only winning one. Stamford, Norwalk, and Stratford handed us three straight trouncings. On the other hand, Harding topped us, 105-75, by the fact they dunked in a fantastic percentage of their shots. Our team played well and scored in rapid repetition. Heading the list of scorers was Dick Dakai with 27, while Mentes and Kochis had 14 and 13 points respec- l.ou proves his skill as he gets the rebound.
