Zo Our graduates and dormer Students Who are in Military Service To you, who have studied here in former years and are now enlisted in the service of our country, this 1942 edition of “The Pioneer” is dedicated. We, the faculty and students of your Alma Mater, are with you in every valiant endeavor, and we know that you will never fail to give the best that you have in the true spirit of real service. You traversed these same halls wherein we walk. You, like us, studied, here, the great political documents of American history, and the lives of those who penned them. You, like us, were inspired by the words and deeds of men like Jefferson, Washington, and Lincoln. But we know that these phrases, these struggles, and achievements have now a deeper meaning to you, for yours is now the privilege of participating in the task of making sure that “this government of, by, and for the people shall not perish.” Yes, while we are training for service, you are experiencing the joy of it. And so, wherever you may be—sailing the wide seas, flying high in the clouds, or in the battle lines—whether your name is listed here or not—to each of you we pay tribute and honor in this dedication. We commend to you the immortal words of Jackson, “Keep your powder dry and say a prayer”—and we shall be saying a prayer for each of you. James E. Sisson, sea¬ man first-class, was in action at Pearl Harbor when it was attacked December 7. lie and his Captain were blown off their ship into the water by a torpedo {story Page 14.0 ). U.
