University of Florida History students rehearse for Oedipus Rex” In today’s complicated world, the emphasis has shifted from learning more facts to ex- amining the whys and hows. Society has realized that the only way to prepare for the future is to learn from the past and analyze the present. Based on this, Jackson teachers present a widely diversified curriculum, of- fering American History, World History, and 20th Century. The new emphasis is evident in new study aids. New movies, film strips, increased use of speakers, and other audio-visual aids en- able teachers to present their subjects in more creative and imaginative ways. This many-sided institute of knowledge is, in a way, constructed for me as well as many who think as I. It was here that I first emerged from the realms of fantasy into the hardened world of reality which was, and is, the prerequisite to the entrance to adulthood. It was while in this place that I first conceived the inconceivable . .. this being that life is a privilege and not a preordained right. In the beginning, the confusion of adjusting to responsibility, hard work, and concentration, were the only unenjoyable factors in the entire scheme of things. It is now with an empty feeling ... a feeling of leaving a shrine . .. that I am forced to depart from these realized happiest moments . .. Moments as fleeting as the thoughts of tjiem; yet, they are branded indelibly into my mind not to be removed by even the greatest forces. This we see by the witness of youth that shall never be forgotten. I am a senior and shall remain such in this moment of thought, and throughout the eons of times that I shall reminice. I am, was, and shall always be a Senior when thinking of this moment. j. kimbrell PATRICIA AIKEN—Little sparks JAN ALLEN—A merry light gleams make great fires. from her eyes. Red Earners Will Wave dorever Jn Our Memories . rife Ai ' ♦ • gaw!MM g H. ■ 1 r - THE SEASON NEVER ENDS The paper scraps around first base Drift aimlessly to third; The ice has marks cut on its face Where sharp steel skates have whirred. The ice rink's dark— So’s the ball park; The ump's taken his bow; And, from this gloom. One might assume The Season's over now. The goalie's made his last great save; The final touchdown's scored; All's won—or lost—by a close shave; Silent are fans who roared. The last long ball Has cleared the wall; They're bringing in the net; The gates are shut And fastened, but— The Season’s swinging yet! Although the stands are empty now, The finish isn't here; The Season’s sworn a solemn vow To endure, year to year. Though hearts will ache For memories' sake, The biggest thing's not gone; No tears are shed By those who’ve said: The Season's going on!” It's more than hits or runs or saves— It's smell and sight and sound; When courage fails, it's all that braves The road that Time has bound. It’s forward strides And backward slides Which shape patience, my friends; And since all these Will never cease, The Season never ends! So year on year, and age on age, When tomorrows are now; When still the world's minds cannot ga The barred secret of How; If cheers are heard. Or not a word, 'Round any future bends— Fchoes one shout: There is no doubt The Season never ends!” ROLAND S.
