Of course . . . most of us have, but in a short period of time the feeling is forgotten . . . chased by new challenges as each hour, each minute brings a new experience ... a new problem to face. Many times, we, the Editors of the 1966 Oracle have had this thought, partly because of deadlines to meet . . . and partly because it is the purpose of a yearbook to capture time ... to provide pictures and stories of people in a particular time and place . . . just enough to bring back a little of the memory of how it felt to be HERE ... at Andrew Jackson . . . NOW. Yesterday we were children . . . tomorrow we will be adults. This time . . . this special, particular, golden time of life ... is called YOUTH. And it is this time, these short days between one part of life and another . . . that we have used as the theme of the 1966 Oracle. DAYS OF YOUTH. YOUTH PLACE 0 As Chairman of the Business department, Mrs. Sweat is consulted frequently in problems of school administration. 'Dedication ... To Mrs. Hope Sweat ... for 19 years of unselfish giving of her time and attention far beyond the actual requirements of a teacher . . . and for the careful attention she gives to each of her students ... for all the Student Body and for the many students of years past who know and love her ... we dedicate the 1966 Oracle. A progressive teacher, Mrs. Sweat believes that learning can be enjoyable. 10 Mope Sweat 11 Other Personnel K. Sometimes, as in this case, a show” called for. When the parents of the com- munity, through the P.T.S.A. Club, asked the teachers to do a money raising project, the)' responded enthusiastically with their in- terpretation of some modern day singing and dancing groups. Although a FEW sour notes rebounded over the speakers, the show was a tremen- dous success. Thanks teachers, for being good sports! 33 ) 1 V 0 KS ON Youth is a time for learning ... it is a time given to the young to, perhaps, make mistakes ... A time to train and polish the leaders of tomorrow. Each Member of our Senior Class is learning . . . and training. Each person . . you . . . and I . . . consciously or unconsciously observes all things happening around and makes a silent judgment of whether good or bad, and whether we would do it differently or better. So we're all learning to be leaders . . . and we’re confident that future years will record 1966 Jackson Graduates high in political, economic, and community leadership. - m . - Senior Class President Vice-President SALLY ANDERSON Zreasurer MARSHA BARR Officers HERMAN SKIPPER vm ' Mm Secretary MARGUERITE COLLINS Jtistorian SUSAN ROUNTREE lynn McDonald 36 JOE ABID—High ideals that win re- spect, great things of you, we shall expect. PHIL HOLT BRENNIE BARNETT RICHARD CHRISTIAN The 1965 66 Football season was high- lighted by a close win over long time rival Lee. After winning only a few games in the regular season, the Jackson team ap- proached the Annual Homecoming game determined to win. In the first quarter, Stan Hunter scored easily, and Dan Mac- kay kicked the extra point to put Jackson ahead 7-0. In the second quarter, Hunter again scored and the extra point kick was good. Lfc was unable to score until the last 7 minutes . . . then they quickly re- peated on a touchdown pass play. The most exciting moments came when Richard Christian blocked a Lee extra point at- tempt, enabling Jackson to maintain a 1 e int lead. Lee threatened again, but Randy yal intercepted a Lee pass on the Jack- son 15 in the last 38 seconds of the game to put a thrilling finish to Jackson’s most important game.
