Fuel shortage threatens but students create own energy The President ' s request for lowering the speed limit from 70 to 55 did not have much effect on Jackson students. After all, who usually drives 70 miles per hour anywhere in town? The increase in the price of gas might have affected how often Jackson students drive, and the lowering of the school ' s thermostats may have forced a few to wear coats in class, but there was no great inconvenience. All in all, the energy crisis did not cramp our life style. And maybe we were healthier in the long run. THE LAYERED LOOK, popular this year in fashions, proved to be practical as well for 68-degree classrooms. ONE ADVANTAGE of the 50-mile speed limit was more miles to a gallon. 22

They manufactured such products as thermometers, Ecology boxes, and even a newspaper published in the South Bend Tribune every month. The companies, each consisting of about 20 people from area high schools, began operations in late October. To fmance the manufacture of their products, companies sold stock at one dollar per share.
