A first-rate kindergarten, added in 1972, became the “baby” o Leila Inabinet. Until the kindergarten building was completed i cember of that year, the children met in the room which now hous Academy’s library. This library was acquired in 1977 by purchas library materials of Bamberg’s Carlisle Military School which, same year, closed its doors forever. Andrew Jackson Academy’s basketball program was begun i when Mr. William Carroll Hiers and Mrs. Marsha Hughes orga girls’ and boys’ varsity teams. And this was only the beginning! In 1974, a brand new gymnasium was erected on the southern en the campus, and Mr. Hallman Sease began coaching the Confede baseball team. The fall of 1975 brought with it the beginning of what to become a “winning tradition” at Andrew Jackson Academy. Co; Louie O’Gorman led the Confederate football team through the firs many successful seasons, and the state championship title was finj brought home in 1978. Only the undying dedication of the men, women, and children Andrew Jackson Academy has made possible the continuous progr that the school has enjoyed over the past decade. Outstanding amo these people were the members of the school’s first Board of Directo They were: Mr. Daniel Chassereau; Mr. J.D. EUBANKS: Mr. H. Herndon; Mr. Carl L. Kilgus; Mrs. C.K. Kirkland; Mr. Norman F. Kir land; Dr. James A. McMillan; Mr. Fred D. Sease; Mr. J.W. Wilson; a Mr. R.P. Ulmer. These devoted leaders, and those who have followed i their footsteps, were able to successfully and solidly establish this prou academy on a foundation of loyalty, honesty, and dignity, a foundation o which it still stands today. 1! ?Whs f j Jp Dedication The 1980-1981 Annual Staff Is honored to dedicate the tenth edition of “The Jacksonian” to Mrs. Leila Inabinet. Staff Appreciation We, the annual staff, would like to express our appreciation to all those who helped make the 1981 Jacksonian possible. We are most grateful to our advisors, Mrs. Joette Hiers and Mrs. Nancy Watson, for all their help. We also thank the faculty for their cooperation and support. Special thanks go to Mr. Charlie Tumbleston of Norris Photography and to Mr. Jack Young, our Josten’s American Yearbook Company Representative. We would also like to thank Mrs. Nancy Rhoad and Billy Varn for help with photography, and the advertisers for their financial support. The annual staff sincerely hopes that the 1981 Jacksonian conveys all of the happy memories of Andrew Jackson Academy during the past year. Thanks to all! The 1981 Jacksonian Staff Editor’s Thanks The year 1980-1981 has been a most memorable year for both me and my fellow students. Realizing that the events of this year were especially important to the Sen- iors, I have tried to record all activities and happenings accurately. I also hope to have captured a small amount of the spirit of the students at A.J.A. • I would like to thank everyone for their support in making the Jacksonian possible. A special thank you goes to my family, my advisors, and Mr. Hutto. Without their un- derstanding and support, little would have been accomplished. To them I am deeply grateful. The 1981 Jacksonian has been a great challenge for me. Though it has had both difficult and pleasing times, it has present- ed a learning experience that has helped prepare me for the future. It has been an experience I will always remember. And all will find who seek within her portals, A wealth of wisdom, truth, and loyalty. Dear Andrew Jackson we will sing thy praises, And lift on high thy banner to the sky. Thy lofty aims will be our inspiration To deeds of honor As the years go by. 100 There’s a season for beginnings when the world is fresh and new, when we shape our dreams of all the things we plan and hope to do, There’s a season for maturing when we think and work and grow .. . There’s a season for the harvesting of all we’ve come to know, And each successive season grows still richer than the last as treasures of the present add to memories of the past. Assisted by Coaches Butch Neal and Robert Wrightenberry, Sease and his team finished the season by going into the Class A Lower State Playoffs. Softball! The Lady Confederates, led by Coach Casey Lyn- daker, had a very impressive season this year. Finishing 8-4, they proved to have a successful season and have set a tough record for next years team to uphold. Hillbilly Weddin ’ ” On March 13th and 14th, the Senior Class proudly presented a play entitled, “Hillbilly Weddin9 ” This play portrayed an unimaginable wed- ding. One of the main characters, Paw Bels- nickle, had a problem. Rather-six problems- in the form of six unmarried daughters. He desperately tried to find husbands for them. Paw’s antics, and those of his family and soon to be in-laws, kept the audience captivated. The senior class, under the direction of Mr. Casey Lyndaker, was commended for a job well done.
