Basketball Creates Enthusiasm Among AHS Students During the tirst week ot the new semes- ter came the list ot those master-minds who made all A's in at least tull credit sub- iects during the tirst term: IB---D'Alice Coburn, Donald Kendrick, Betty Peters, Adrienne Stewart, Pat Stew- ri i , E' 'E art, l-lelen Wilson, Pauline Cochran, Rachel Mathew. 2B ---Charles Lacey, Clyde Steckel, Eleanor Todd, Patty Ryan, Ross Michel, Mary Prokas, Charles Nichols. 2A---Betty Stone, Claris Ann Byrum. 3B---Betty Moore, Neal Petry, Barbara Riggs, Jack Burton, Joanna I-leiney, Wen- dell l-loward, Thom Gephardt, Eileen Gil- rnore, Eileen Hahn, Don Deena Eleenor, Maribeth Munson, t-lelen Roberts, l-low- ard Landon, Wilma Wilborn. 3A---Roberta Nevis. 4B---Doris Bowser, Mariorie Wheat, Joan Kessler, Robert Morse, Marilyn Mul- vihill, Emma Jean Nunley, Joan Dietzen, Barbara l-lellert, Jean Stottlemeyer. 4A---Mary Lou McClain. .45 .7 57 L ll iii ME' OO. S . The tirst tourney pep-session was guite a success, it seems the Indian tound his mate, none other than brunette song- stressf Janice McArt. As his new sguaw, Janice takes her place in Anderson tradi- tion. Erankie Scampmorte added an extra touch by whooping it up in papoose style. To tide us through the Sectional, several warriors showed their strength in handling all opponents to a speedy deteat. Atte the Semi-tinal game, convention was thrown to the side and hugh bon-tires were built in down town streets to expose Indian patriotism. This swarm ot young supermen land womenl soon landed in Athletic Park atter snake-lining down Mer- idian. A huge congregation ot tear-stained people met in the l-ligh School Gymnas- ium three weeks atter the Sectional. It was one tine way ot welcoming the team back home. Nationally advertised as in Look .... in years to come you'll look back and won- der how that ever happened. It was this way, Bob Lavitt, photographer, and Erank Graham- sports editor ot Look , were given the assignment ot gathering mater- ial on a typical basketball city, so they chose Anderson .... and isn't it? Pictures were taken ot the cheering section' the hangout, the team in action and individ- ual pictures ot the team. The issue came out on March 2 lst. 1 -Q x or ME

Spring Student Talent Program proves Entertaining Under the tine direction ot two wolves, .loe Coolc, and Barney Cochran, masters- ot-ceremonies, the second student talent program toolc place. Sixteen acts were teaturedg Bill Nett beat it out with a little boogie and quite a tew vocal sel- ections were given, Don Richardson, a graduate ot A. l-l. S.. now in the Army, sang Night and Day and The Song ot the Open Road . A trio, the Bixenstine duet, Joyce Stone, l-tildred Tarvin, Ray Malone, and Anitra Lynch also sang. Two readings were given, both about baseball, one by Florence Porges and the other by Bob l-lall. Classics Awakened Marian Canaday wolce the classics with Rhapsody in Blue , and an accordian number was given by Ramona Larrabee. Showing some vim and vigorwere Harr- iett Nowlin. dancing and Louis Caplinger and Charles Britton I'-lill, giving tencing tips. Always welcomed were the Daven- port toursome, including Jack. Bobby Williams, Jack C-Breen, and Johnny Barber. Richard l-lamilton led a band which played Crazy Rhythm with plenty ot oomph. At last Anderson has its new Recrea- tion l-tall, commonly lcnow as The Club Tom Tom. Above the l-lerald building most A. H. S. students can be tound most all the time. The tountain provides the retreshments- the iuke-box the music, and the games and dancing the tun. At the head ot the center is Elmo l-lawlcins, assistant pastor ot the First Methodist Church. Games ot all types are 'in use, in- cluded are shuttle board, cards, chess, checlcers, and most any game you would choose. This is the tirst time Anderson has had a place tor high school students to dance and spend a decent evening and yet be- long entirely to them. lt was a little late in opening, because a tire escape had to be tinished betore the grand debut, but the premier was magniticent and the entire idea is wholly a success.
