Typical School Day Qvcr Ted already, The scarciTy oT available manpower has aTTecTed The girls The hard- esT. One TacT has come To The rescue oT The Teminine populaTion, however, wiTh The dawn oT T944 and ThaT is Leap Year. The girls now have a reasonably good excuse Tor popping The guesTion ---asking Tor a daTe, oT course---and have done iT more Than once. This siTuaTion would probably have shocked Those TiTTy years ago, buT Times do change. ln addiTion, They would never imagine going To a movie or Taking an auTomobile drive To a nearby ciTy Tor en- TerTainmenT. FaTher's only worry was a- bouT a Jack and a Jill in a horsedrawn buggy. Many daTes were parlor aTTairs including noT only The inTeresTed couple, buT also an inTeresTed Tamily. As a maTTer oT TacT, Though, iT iusT mighT be ThaT TransporTaTion diTTiculTies are reviving or enTorcing These sTay-aT home dares once again. The comedy oT such a siTuaTion can readily be seen, and was, wiTh The resulT ThaT a I944 war-Time daTe series was ThoughT ouT and porTray- ed, being produced herein. The TirsT sTep involved, oT course, was ThaT oT making The daTe. ln This case The Tellow, acTed ouT by Bob Fowler, asked The girl personiTied in Sally Berry, To spend The evening wiTh him in her home. Yes, iT's a sad seT-up, buT whaT could The poor girl do buT accepT, even knowing whaT a home-loving group her Tamily .... noT really her Tamily .... proTessed To be. The nighT oT The daTe- in TacT, would no doubT prove how very home-loving They really were. in Y i-1 Ydgif STucles Board Busses Bob arrived aT Sally's home .... noT really her home .... and was meT by Sally and BroTher Bill. CurosiTy and inTeresT simply could noT be hidden Trom The Time oT The inTroducTion. The Tamily all gaThered round To lisTen To Bob's accounT oT him- selT which he presenTed nobly Tor he real- ized ThaT a more aTTenTive audience could noT be creaTed. AT lengTh, MoTher and Dad, having approved oT Sally's young man, reTired wiTh The same suggesTion To young Bill. The laTTer, however, was wonT To give up his vesTed inTeresTs so easily, unTil Bob Tinanced his disappearance. ATTor ThaT .... well, a boy and a girl siT- Ting in TronT oT a Tire on The TradiTional, buT noT Too pracTical, love seaT is explan- aTion enough. All good Things do come To an end, however, and in This case, Dad saw To ThaT. As Tar as he was concerned- mid- nighT was The zero hour. ParTing was sweeT bur noT sorrow as They kissed goodnighT 'Til iT be mor- row.
