e f ' . - . - Q 1' . ' W 'Y Q' . ' I Track . Track is becoming more popular in A. H, S. each season and it is hoped that in a few years track will have as big a following of fans as basketball now has. The largest crowd that ever witnessed a track meet in Anderson turned out at the open- ing of the season when A. H. S. and Elwood held a most interesting dual meet. Heretofore track has not paid for itself but it is gradually coming into its own. For the last three years A. H. has had a most successful team, having lost but two dual meets in the three years. Anderson has sent representatives to the State meet for a number of years but as yet she has never won a State contest. This year Roy Shettle, low hurdler, Alfred Jackson, quarter miler, and Earl Mahan. Hussell Bowers, VVarren Carpenter, and Charles Anderson, 1nile relay men repres- ented A. H. S. at the State meet which was held at Tech. of Indianapolis. Coach Staggs experienced much difficulty in developing a team this year as graduation reaped the C1'L'2l111 of last year's team. A number of the team members this year are freshmen and it is evident that a winning team will be turned out again next year. The question of having a suitable place to stage track meets, since the new gymnasium being erected west of the school does away with our former Held, has been worrying track enthusiasts some, Anderson expects to have a winning bunch of thinly clads next year and consequently will make the necessary provisions for an athletic tield. A complete schedule of meets for next year has not been made but several thrilling contests may be promised for those loyal fans who always support And- erson High School, Athletic oificials have been very well pleased with the co- operation and support of the student body to the track team this year and urge them to continue to be true to the Red and Green thinly clads and help boost track as a live institution of A, H, S. 96

Through deep valleys of depression and great deserts of despair they have led us carefully and cheerfully, keeping a watchful eye on all the pathways to find the smoothest and the most comfortable, Yes, they have led us, and led us ever upward, always upward towardf that highest mountain peak of success toward which we gaze so yearningly, And now as we gaze with enraptured silence upon that glorious sunrise that Life has placed so enticingly before us, as we go forth, prepared to seek new fields of conquest, we linger with their words of encouragement still beating upon our senses and look back longingly as we bid them a fond farewell, and leave with them our best wish- es for a bright and happy future. And so we leave them, our teachers, our sponsors, our friends, and go forth on our path of Life, thanking them in our hearts and with their influence, as writ- ing upon a waxen tablet, indelibly engraved upon our souls. 7
