Furrier ANDERSONIAN 1970 14 THE YEAR We want to remember the 1969-70 school year not only by the many special events that occurred, but also for the day by day activities that made up the school year. From the McNicholas game to Commencement another year has passed - one we will always recall with many good thoughts land maybe a few bad onesl. 78 ACTIVITIES The Anderson student is a person of varied interests and many talents. Through his participation in activities, he becomes an important part ofAnderson Senior High School. 96 ACADEMICS Through long hours ofstudy, determination and hard work these students excell in academic achievement. They take studying seriously, and are recognized for their accomplishments. 104 MUSIC Music has always been one ofthe best known activities ofAHS. Half-time shows, parades, concerts, and assemblies are presented after many hours of rehearsal. 114 ATHLETICS Athletics is notjust a word e it is a way of life. Dedication, pride, pain and teamwork all dominate the Anderson athletes' world. By practice and hard work, the athlete strives for victory. 124 FACULTY We may call them names, neglect their assignments, even flunk their exams, but we realize that without the faculty's help, we would not receive the education we need. 132 UNDERCLASSMEN Awaiting the day when they will be seniors, the underclaSSmen represent a majority ofour student body. From the sophomore candy sale to the junior-Senior Prom, th ey show their importance in the activities ofAnderson Senior High School. 152 SENIORS When we finally reach our senior year, we are relieved. Yet, we have a feeling ofsadness and apprehension in leaving Anderson and having to face the responsibilities on an entirely new way of life. 188 ADVERTISING We would like to thank all of the businesses and clubs for placing an advertisement in this year's annual. it is with their support that we are able to publish the i970 ANDERSONIAN. We were in first bell listening to one of you-know-who's lectures when we heard an announcement over the P.A. telling us to report to the gym. While walking from Class to the assembly, questions ran through our minds about what was happening. Seated in the gym, not quite sure of what to expect, we watched Mr. Titus slowly approach the microphone and casually introduce THE NEW CHRISTY MINSTRELS It was fantastic! They sang Shenandoah , BOD Alice's Restaurant'-', This Land Is Your Land , and a lot more. You should have been there! Traditional? Sure - patriotism, religion, the giving of thanks e they were all there. But it was the missing element of formality that made this Thanksgiving Assembly not only effective, but also unique. Our generation often cannot relate to a certain idea unless it is expressed in our own terms. The Boys' and Girls' Choruses conveyed the meaning of Thanksgiving to us by using our generation's means of communication - guitars, clapping, informality, and contemporary songs. Thanksgiving is a time for than kfulness e for our country our heritage, and our freedom. How could we forget it! Do you remember the Withrow game? How could we forget it! We had lost last year and weren't going to let that happen again. Or so we thought. Remember the crowd? They really yelled! The team? They played a great game and never gave up. Even though we dropped behind, our spirits never faltered e we backed our team all the way. . . . from snowflakes to the Three Kings. You should have seen our school at Christmas! The halls were filled with everything from snowflakes t0 the Three Kings. The big showcase was turned into Santa's Toy Shop. Almost every wall had something on it about Christmas . . . whether it was a poster for The Christmas Formal or a Santa going down a chimney. Most of us were anxious for the vacation to begin. We kept our- selves busy with last minute shopping and incomplete assignments. Christmas at Anderson was a hurried time of the year but also an exciting one. 111316; In 1' I ' a The crisp night air perfect for the formal Swimmers take your mark K. 1 !!! .. 7 '1 1 ', $ n m I. Exams bring about lastaminute cramming, sleepless nights, and chewed up fingernails. A few plan for exams in advance, but most of us are quite experienced in the agewold art of bluffing.
