A Word of Gratitude In gratitude for everything he has done for Anderson and for us, we the Senior Class of 1963, are proud to dedicate this ANDERSONIAN to Herschel D. West. During his eight years as superintendent he has shown a deep concern for the development of the young peo- ple in this area and has provided outstanding leadership in the advancement of all phases of the educational program of the Forest Hills School District; We, however7 will remember Mr. West, not as a remote and impersonal administrator, but as a friend with whom we could enjoy the various social events of the school. He cheered at our athletic victories and grieved with us at our defeats. He felt every tense, as well as amusing, moment of the dramatic productions. He attended every vocal or instrumental concert. His participation at school dances made him a friend to all. we were happy to know he cared enough about us to participate in the social, as well as in the business, affairs of the school. We want to wish Mr, West success in his new oHice as Assistant Superintendent of Hamilton County Schools, and we are glad that he will be coming to visit us m HCTSChel DA WESt often: we hope - in the future. Assistant Superintendent Hamilton County Schools A Word cf Welcome We knew only that he , . . SWas born in 1923 in Wilson, Arkansas? iispent six years in the United States Navy in World War Hf: iigraduated from St. Louis University in 1952 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in business adminis- trationfi gieamed his Masteris Degree from Xavier Univer- sity in 1959:: ;was Assistant Superintendent for two years in the West Clermont Schools and was Superintendent in Williamsburg for three yearsfl This is what he had done before he came to Anderson W'e watched and wondered what he would do for us. He came to Anderson with the belief that his most im- portant job was to supervise projects already started and to see that they were completed as intended. He also had plans for development in two major academic areas e our guidance department and an adult education pro- gram. As the year progressed; we watched the fulfill- Robert Gofonh ment of his plans and learned to respect and admire Superintendent him. We at Anderson welcome our new superintendent, Forest Hills Schools Robert Goforth.

ANDERSON: OUR STORY, 1963 A story is usualiy one book, one plot, one set of circumstances lead- ing to one turning-point and one inevitable ending. It is its own small world. - Our story is different. It is the story of many books. It is many worlds in one behind the high: silver lettering, ciAnderson Senior High School? Here in one short year many lives grow, many minds meet. Ours is a world of books which we try to picture in this one book. It is a world of minds from many centuries speaking in our century. Through our teachers they open their thoughts and experiences to us Our story is of moods, expressions. Here one will see the pensive and the exuberant, hard work and concentration. The difficult is made interesting; the achievements become an inspiration. Here is found study, intensity. The hash of school spirit and light flooding into our many-windowed main corridor is matched by the light in eyes of sudden understanding.
