Foreign language is taught by a modified audiolingual method where the students are introduced to the language in basically the same way they learned English: first hearing and understanding, then speaking, and finally writing, As supplements to regular class- work they learn songs in the lan- guage studied, see films and slides, do extra reading on cul- ture and history, write to students in foreign countries, and take field trips. Belinda McDonald and Eleanor Williams converse in Spanish. Wm '1' H ll Mary Lindsay, DeSeria Forge, Louis Hicks, Alvin 87 Social tuclies Of the many tasks schools are called up to to perform, the two most significant challenges are the development of the student's understanding of himself and of his physical and social environment. The Social Studies Department attempts to achieve this goal by using the inquiry approach to learning which demands use of the processes of search and of critical and reflective thinking, Much use is made of available, effective tools of daily and weekly newspapers, magazines, maps, audio-visual equipment, and community resource persons. rootxsnr mt 'Mus 0 R l U - ' rvt NT xx.-uw. ..
